Let’s talk sleep

Hi, ladies! Been a while so I figured I’d check in to see how everyone’s doing with toddler sleep. Going down easily? Staying asleep all night? Waking early? What’s the story

Thank You Mary,

Em just doesn’t seem to require sleep like I do ?. I think her teeth are bothering her. She went to bed at 2AM and woke up crying at 5AM, Motrin helped her mood, but she didn’t go back to sleep. We have speech and ABA therapy, so hopeful we nap after. I’m sure you are tired too being pregnant, working and being a Mommy. How many months are you? Hugs ?

@mary do you have a bedtime routine you follow? Does she fall asleep on her own, or does she fight you on going down? Sometimes my son begs for milk at bedtime... he drinks a lot during the day and we are trying to break that habit...

@J I’m sorry - I don’t have any tips - have never gone through that transition before. I hope it gets easier for you though! I’m sure it’s a big adjustment for the LO’s though :-/

Sleep has been terrible for my little girl since we moved her out of her crib, keep them in the crib as long as you can! She was climbing out of her crib so we moved her into a bed a couple weeks ago for safety reasons but I’m seriously losing my mind trying to get her to sleep now. In her crib she went right down and now in a bed it’s at least 1-2 hours to get her down. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah Layla’s not showing signs of out growing the crib yet, so she’s still in hers (most of the time. Sometimes she ends up in our bed).

Tara I’m sorry sleep is still so crazy for you guys! I can’t imagine Layla staying up that late. She’s not a terrible sleeper but it’s still just SO inconsistent & this week she’s been waking up 1-3 x... hasn’t done that in months!! I thought we were done with all this but I guess there are always “phases” to get through. And thanks for the well wishes. I’m feeling SUPER exhausted/crabby lately so the sleep interruptions aren’t helping ?

@mary He sleeps in his crib still. He really loves it and is not trying to climb out on his own yet. When he starts giving us signs, we will move him to the front half-rail on his crib.

Hey Mary,

We’ve talked before about Em’s crazy sleep. She seems to have patterns of pretty good sleep or wild sleeping hours. Yesterday she didn’t nap and slept from 10:30-10:30. This is awesome for Em. Today Floortime therapy and not nap and she went to bed at almost midnight. I don’t know how she does it. The crazy sleep is usually when she naps and then is up anywhere from 1Am-3AM and I’m Fall i’m my face. Unless she’s not feeling well once’s she’s out it’s for the night, so that’s good. We cosleep & she goes in her toddler bed too.

Hopefully Layla sleeps good for when the new baby is here ??.

Wow that’s great! And is he sleeping in a crib? Toddler bed? Bedsharing? I’m so curious as to how the little toddlers in this group are doing re sleep

My son is a great sleeper most of the time - the exception is teething and illness. Sometimes he has too much to drink before bedtime and ends up wet as well. Then I’ll change him and he’ll go back down very easily. Bedtime is around 7pm and he’ll sleep through till 7am!

She has 3 kids aged 4.5 years, 2.5 years and 6 months and knows all too well the difficulties of a non-sleeping baby. “My first baby was 11 months old before he slept his first 2 hour stretch (It was a wednesday) and since then I became obsessed with learning about sleep!” Hailee classifies herself as more of a gentle sleep coach and encourages parents to do what works best for their own family. “Always advocate for your family and your baby! After all, you know them best!” She has worked with many families and loves providing tools to help improve sleep for every family she meets. Healthy Sleep equals Happy Families! Hailee’s top 3 sleep tips: 1.) Create a baby cave! The body is cued by light levels and so darkness in the room environment is so important. We want that room to be pitch black if we can. This helps newborns feel at home (in the womb) and it help’s older babies produce sleep hormones. 2.) Use white noise. This is my “must have” in any sleep space. It helps newborns feel at home because it sounds like the womb and it helps older babies to cycle through sleep cycles. Use a constant sound such as static, heavy rainfall or a vacuum. Make sure it does not turn off after a certain interval as we want it to be playing the whole time to help those sleep cycles! 3.) Build strong routines. This is not the same as a schedule. A routine is just the steps you do before putting your baby down to sleep. Each step in that routine triggers the brain to release sleep hormones. Essentially, it acts as your baby’s clock telling the body what time it is… sleep time! Inconsistent sleep routines can lead to inconsistent sleep!
