night snacks

What do you eat for a nighttime snack, and what time do you eat It? My fasting numbers have been in the 120's the last 3 days and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Last night I had a small banana and a glass of milk. 124 this morning ?

Usually I just do 15g which is a glass of chocolate milk or regular milk. Sometimes I will have a yogurt.

I tried the toast with peanut butter last night. Number was 135 this morning. Sigh. On to the next snack suggestion.

I always have a slice of toast with cottage cheese on it. It works for me really well and my endocrinologist said it was a really good choice. I do take insulin at night but if I have something different I notice my insulin dose doesn't work every time. So I just stick with my toast and cottage cheese I really enjoy it anyway.

eat greek yoghurt...eat berries or watermelon as they are most water than natural sugars...avoid honey...always go for 15g/ -20g /serving when it comes to the carbohydrate content of your snack (carbs turn to glucose)...eat 5 small meals a day...avoid juices at all costs, even an all natural freshly squeezed orange juice...the most helpful tip i can give you is to eat brown rice and wholemeal breads when you feel like eating something heavy...i have been diagnosed with GD on my 17th week, im now on my 24th week and controlling my sugar level with these tips have been a great help

Bananas have a high glycemic index and I think they're a trigger for some people. If you have fruit at bedtime I would go with something like an apple. Although milk has protein it also has sugar so I would try a different protein like cheese or almonds. But definitely more protein. I've read some mamas have better luck with an extra snack in the middle of the night (another protein, like a cheese stick).

Some people have more trouble with sugars and carbs first thing in the morning, which is probably why you were told to avoid fruits first thing. Also, I was told plain yogurt only if I want to eat it - if anything, mix in your own fruit, but don't buy the sweetened yogurt.

It's a lot of trial and error. Some things that work for some moms cause other moms' blood sugars to spike. There are older posts on here with some suggestions for improving fasting levels, of you feel like searching... but fasting is the hardest to control, so don't be hard on yourself if you keep testing high. Good luck!

Wow really? Mine told me the opposite. She recommended yogurt, told me I couldn't have fruit in the morning, but other times it was ok, and I told her I really didn't drink regular milk and she told me the almond milk wasn't doing anything for me and regular milk was good. It is so hard to plan meals right now. I feel like I can't eat anything...

I was told no fruit, milk or yogurt for night time snack. Peanut butter on a piece of whole grain toast has been working for me. I've done cheese and crackers and that makes my numbers higher than the toast and pb but not over the limit.

The banana did the damage I'd say. Nutritionist said they were a no-no to me, in fact most fruit is. I find that very hard. I love drinking milk too, it really helps with my heartburn.

You'll have to come up with more protein based snacks. I eat cubes of cheese or a couple of boiled eggs. If I have to stray away from protein I just peel a carrot.
