When do parents stop going to appointments with their kids?
I would keep going until at least 18 and then if they ever asked me to come I would be there.
I've taken myself to appointments since I was able to drive, so 16.
Maybe they were having a day out together and the appointment was scheduled already. Maybe she was his ride. Who knows.
A friend of mine has debilitating anxiety, mostly social, and can't go out in public alone. She's almost 30 and lives at home with her parents, can't drive, and requires her mother to be at all appointments with her. She looks perfectly fine at a glance, but can't even talk to strangers on the phone to order a pizza. There may be more to his story, or mom may have just tagged along for the hell of it. Who knows.
I have anxiety as well, especially with the dentist, although not anywhere close to as bad as my friends'. If DF can't go with me, I have no shame asking mom to come for emotional support! Just having someone there makes me feel better, and I'm 22 ?
Umm....my mom went to the dr with me when I was 21 to confirm my pregnancy ? and a few after that. And ultrasounds.
That might not be normal though. I'm kind of a spoiled brat.
My mom still comes to the doctor with me every now and then and I'm turning 21 this year.
I don't think it's too weird. Maybe he thought they were going to give him some medicine and he wouldn't be able to drive.
A nurse in the ER called me "helicopter wife" a couple days ago ?. she was asking my husband questions like: address, phone number, SS number and I was answering for him. My husband is dyslexic and gets nervous and always gives the wrong information so I just always answer for him. I don't do it because he doesn't know it. I do it so they will have the correct information.
When they can drive themselves
Yes!!!! Like we will have five people come in and ask how long it's going to take when there is like 4 other ppl in front of them. Like don't bring your whole crew in here and expect to be in and out in less than an hour lololol
PP we have families of 5 come in and all be seen at one time. It's ridiculous.
Or a child is being seen and they have their mom, dad, and grandparents from both sides with them. Wtf.
I totally get it if it's a regular, scheduled appointment or if you're expecting bad news. But if you're coming out urgent care, you're probably there for something minor and last minute. We aren't PCPs ??
I work in an orthodontist office and you'd be surprised! I see 7 year olds being dropped off (the parent doesn't have to be in with them if it is a routine visit) and seniors in college that have their mom talk for them... unbelievable!
I work at an urgent care and you wouldn't believe the amount of 20+ year old ppl that come in with their parents still.
Then the parents get ticked because they want to fill out the paperwork and that's fine but the actual patient needs to sign. And so if a parent signs they have to redo it all. Like let your 32 year old child fill out their own paper work plz lol
My kids can go alone when they are 18 just incase anything happens which needs my permission. If they ever want me to go to their appointments i will go as i dont see anything wrong. My mother is 38 and i am 20 and we go to eachothers appointments for company and to go eat after.
My mom or daddy go to appointments with me if I'm super sick lol. Honestly I don't think there should be an age limit or make you look like you cling to them. There are so many types of doctors and sometimes people need emotional support.
I take my mom to appointments I'm nervous about. She went with me to an OB consult to decide how high rrisk I am today. I'm 23 on Tuesday. She's a nurse and breaks things down and asks questions I never would have thought of before.
My mom still goes with me and I still go with my mom. Not every single one but usually the ones involving needles lol.... ?
He may appear to be of sound mind and body, but he may suffer from anxiety that makes it difficult for him to go to appointments alone.
I'm 28 and my dad went with me to the dentist! I'm petrified of the dentist! Also my mom went with me to the er when I had my miscarriage. My dh is too concerned with work to bother to come to either! ? but that's a different story!
I had a 48 year old bring his mommy to the doctor with him yesterday.
At least 10 times a day I see patients over the age of 25 bring their parents with them.
I would say that 98% of people I triage have someone with them (SO, friend, relative).
I will add - I work at urgent care and usually triage (myself, not the nurse that works with me) around 40 patients a day.
Maybe he needed a ride? It's not that far fetched.
It depends I guess. Obviously I went to all my prenatal appointments without my parents. But I have had my dad drive me to get a tooth pulled and my mom went with me to my last endocrinologist appointment, its 2 hours away and ds also had an appointment in that area so I needed her to go help me watch ds during my appointment.
Once you're 18 and are legally allowed to make decisions for yourself you can make your own appointments and go alone. I'd rather be there for stuff before that incase anything comes up that needs to be addressed like cavity fillings, caps, braces, wisdom teeth extractions, billing, etc. if we're in a pinch and I can't make it though, I'm not opposed to them going alone. 21 is a bit ridiculous.
Whenever my child says they don't need me. I don't care if my one of my babies is 18, if they ask me to come to a appt I'm going.
My mom stopped going to my appointments with me when I was 16 and could drive. She would just give me money to pay for it.
What do YOU judge Clearly, no one is a perfect parent nor do we know everything. But what’s something you judge a parent off of or just irks you?
"Child support is for absent parents NOT failed relationships"
Until u know what another parent is going through, dont judge.cause if they didn't need the money, they wouldn't sell the food. U just never know another person situation.
Another post got me thinking.. For those with 'step-parents'..
So how many of you are first time parents and how many of you are second time parents? what are you feelings right now about expecting?

I hate going to any kind of appointment myself. I can't explain it, I do have anxiety though. Even just routine check ups, for myself or ds I like to have someone there.
edit* to be honest I don't like going anywhere by myself, even the gas station. I even perfer to take ds grocery shopping with me.
