Pio injections

So I have two large bumps on my backside (one on each side) from my last two injections. They are hard and very sore. I showed the doctor the first one and she said that most likely it was injected between the muscle and fat (need to teach my nurse friends how to properly do IM injections!). I need to watch for infection at that one site.

I did all but one of my injections using the z-track method that I heard about on this board. It really helped the oil get to the right place and stay there. You can google it for instructions.

I had reactions to the progesterone in sesame oil. I had to switch to progesterone in ethyl oleate and had absolutely no issues after that. A lot of people react to the sesame oil. Ask your doctor if they are okay with you switching and try that.. Good luck!!

Thanks Karen! When I was pregnant with my son, I had implantation cramping and bleeding, but I wasn't on progesterone at all.

I don't recall feeling overly crampy with the pio (and still don't). Implantation though I felt! It wasn't so much a cramp but more like someone was pinching the one side of my uterus with vice grips! Lol

Thanks Karling

I have never had cramping

Those of you on or have taken PIO injections.... How long after starting them did you start cramping? I was on them 6 days prior to FET, and now 3dp5dt I'm cramping pretty intensely...

Agree with karlings points. And also my clinic advised to do the shot in the morning so that you are walking around after. Apparently gives the muscle more chance to absorb.

Heat up the oil in a heating pad or your hands (sometimes i stick it in my bra hahaha) that will help thin it. Then massage the area after injecting to make sure the ned gets absorbed then follow up with a heating pad. Good luck.

Lots of nurses here! I'll ask at my appointment tomorrow and see if they have any tips or pointers :)

I was in pio shots for my fresh transfer for 3 weeks. That was unsuccessful so we took a 7 week break and did a frozen transfer which was successful. I was then in 2 ml pio injections daily for 13 weeks. With almost every shot I had a huge knot and some of them bruised. They all hurt pretty bad and was still sore for about 5 weeks after stopping the injections. It is normal. It's very thick medicine. I am a registered nurse so I know my shots were given correctly and it still happened. A few things you can do are...

-ice the area for about 10 minutes prior to injection. This helps numb the area

-use a heating pad after injection. It helps increase blood flow to the area which will in turn help your body to absorb the medicine quicker.

-warm the medicine before injecting it by holding the syringe in between your hands or under your arm. This is supposed to help thin the medicine a little so it doesn't hurt as bad.

- do squats. Use those muscles that you are injecting. It will help the muscle absorb the medicine.

I iced the spot before injections. After a while I got red welts. They said it could be an allergic reaction to the oil base.

I always rub the area that inject for about 5 minutes after, it helps the pio dissipate faster and then I use a heating pad on any sore areas. Are you also making sure to pull back on the syringe to make sure there is no blood? If you draw blood you should withdraw the needle, change the needle and try a different spot

I use a heating pad after the shot to help the oil move around And absorb
