Working out but keeping heart rate under 140?

Ladies, I am 5w4d today. I am usually a very inactive person. I sometimes work out once a week but that is about it. I usually do this memorial day 10k and I want to do it this time too. I asked my doctor and they said I could still do it so long as my heart rate does not go above 140. I tried a walk-jog routine and my heart rate keeps going above 140. Which means i have to walk the 10k and no running. Any advice ladies?

I agree with the breathing test. I'm a very active person, 23w now, and it takes next to nothing to get to 140 bmp. I use a "talk test"... if I can hold a conversation, I'm safe. The 140 recommendation is antiquated, I read somewhere that doctors came up with that guideline about 20 years ago. We are all different and have different anaerobic thresholds so just listen to your body and you will be great!

The breathing instructions are a lot easier to follow. Thank you!

My doctor said ignore the heart rate guide. 140 for one person is different than 140 for another person. Go based on your breathing. If you can comfortably breath you are good. Just remember you are breathing for two now....

Hmm, I did not feel that my I was stressing put my body. I would start to jog and then my heart rate goes up and then i start walking again. I will listen to my body for the 10k

I usually pay more attention to my breathing and also to how my body feels. You can tell if you are pushing yourself too hard. Also, hydration is important
