Top 10 reasons why I (and probably most cashiers) hate you.
1. You come in at 8 am and select $100 in cash back without asking if I have it, then get mad when you have to wait for someone to bring it.
I know right! That tiny little 15 minutes we get lol..I want to sit down and enjoy them. I already stand up all day. There's things I'd say but I wouldn't be able to think of them until after my work day...I'm actually about to clock in. Let's see what craziness today holds. Lord be with me
@megan yes!! Asking for help when I'm on freaking break! I was trying to do my Easter shopping on my break the other day and ended up having to wait until after work because I kept getting interrupted. If I'm pushing a basket, have no name tag, and have my phone out, I'm on break! And then this lady asked where something was, so I told her sorry but I didn't know where it was and I was on break, so she asked if I could find her someone that wasn't on break? Really?! You want me to waste half of MY 15 minute break on YOU?! Don't think so!
It's been awhile, but I worked as a cashier at a Drug Store before going to college. There was this cute little old lady who would come to the counter every other day. But she always used pennies, and one day, she was trying to find correct change. She dumped her whole purse on my counter, not only did a whole bunch of pennies come out, but also a whole bunch of baby roaches! I was so freakin disgusted! I had to shut down my register and spray the whole counter with bug spray. I can tell she was embarrassed and I tried not to make a scene, but I was horrified. From then on we told her she needed to bring in rolled coins.
I watched a lady at Walmart go off for 15 mins.. first on the cashier, then called a csm, then called another csm yelling at them all because her card wouldn't go through and was telling them they had to push debit and then she would push credit on her side. And when that didn't work she yelled some more. Just to call and find out it was because she didn't keep track of the balance on her card!
Eyeon sparrow, yeah that really annoys me. I work in a pub and people definitely treat me like an idiot soketimes and look down on me.I want to say actually, I do have a degree and I used to be a technician measuring brain activity before I had my babies, but I can't be bothered. People can be so rude
Oh man, and this one: the assumption that I must be some unsuccessful going-nowhere lowlife because I was just a cashier! I was juggling college and working. I was on the Dean's List and doing well academically. Chances are, I had better tests and IQ scores than whoever it was assuming that I must be a nobody for not having a better job. I had an excellent credit score, was very fiscally responsible, was drug-free, and bit nerdy though I was (am), I was your basic good kid with a happy family life, positive friendships, enjoyed productive hobbies, and went on to become a well-adjusted, middle class adult with a pleasant marriage and content children. My husband who also worked there with the same bottom-of-the-totem-pole job as me went on to soon thereafter be a really hands-on dad pulling in an income in the top 20%. He's a kind, very generous guy with excellent integrity, an impeccable work ethic, is the husband of my dreams, and my parents absolutely adore him. Not all that long ago (under a decade), he was juggling stocking shelves and cashiering for barely above minimum wage. Don't judge who people are based on their job status.
I have a good friend who is actually a quite wealthy, intellegent, well-
educated and inspiring woman, one of the kindest, most intersting and wholesome people I know, who is a waitress. She simply enjoys having a little something to do part time while her husband is at work now that her kids are grown and out of the house. My very best friend was moonlighting as a part-time cashier at Walmart while also being a professor for a handful of classes. She'd just worked there for quite awhile (through her many years of college), and didn't feel like quitting yet, especially not with the pile of student loans she had, and without having a really full load of classes to teach (I think she only taught five or six courses). That kid rounding up carts in the parking lot? He may be working his way through his master's degree and be doing quite successfully. That girl working the deli counter may be doing some really fascinating humanitarian work when not on the clock. Maybe in the next five years, she'll have made numerous trips around the globe working on relief efforts, and have a lot of really meaningful stories under her belt. She just mught be the kind of girl you hope your son brings home some day. Don't judge people and assume you know what they must be like based on their job status. There's a lot of clean-cut, honest-living, interesting cashiers, waitresses, and car wash attendants out there. And ya know what? Likewise, you'll find some underhanded doctors with some bad closet skeletons out there as well that are nightmarish spouses and one caught stunt away from prison. Careers really don't say as much about a person or theor respectability as some people think they do. Dont think you're automatically a better, "superior" person (by your own standards) than the kid ringing up your stuff.
I hate when someone goes (after they've paid and I've already cashed them out) "can I put suchnsuch back?"
No, dangit. Now you have to go to customer service and deal with them. Should have thought about it before you ran your card or handed me the cash, because now we're both stuck!
I don't even know what price matching is. And I'm glad I shop at stores that don't have coupons! The only thing I'll complain about is if something is out of stock, after they ask "did you find everything ok?" Because I didn't! But often they can give me useful info about why there are supply issues and it's not a b**** y conversation.
I agree completely. I work at Walmart. I have for two years now. My daughter is 7 months old now and I was pregnant at one point. I work as a cashier and customer service. Here's the things I hate
1. When someone cusses you out for no reason
2. When people leave their cart at the register. Like wtf. .you're walking outside so drop it at the door.
3. Coupons that don't work because they don't get the right stuff
4. When people expect you to bow down to them and cater to their every need.
5. When people get mad if you don't know an answer to their question because you don't work in the department they're asking about.
6. When they're on their phone in the line and you're trying to tell them something they need to hear.
7. When you say hi and they don't even respond.
8. When they ask me if I'm pregnant. I was 7 months ago. ..
9. When they complain about Walmart. Don't freaking shop in there if you don't like it.
10. When people ask for help while I'm clearly on break.
11. When their card is declined and they say it's the cashiers fault. Lol
12. They come to the self checkout and it clearly says card only and they try to shove cash in it anyways.
13. Racism. It's very apparent when you work with the public. I could go on and on for days. People are so damn rude
Eyeonsparrows I completely agree! Have a problem? Talk to a manager, or customer service. I control NOTHING except taking your money. You're wasting both of our time complaining to me as I don't have the time or ability to address your every concern about the store.
When I worked as a cashier, I hated when people went off on me about things that we're entirely out of my control. I worked at a pet supply store during the whole pet food recall sometime around 2006 (2005? I forget), and I can't tell you how many times a day I was practically held personally responsible for it. We sold those systems that are like invisible fences. I'd get cussed out about how inhumane they were. If someone thought the grooming department services were overpriced, you can bet I'd hear about it in a nasty tone, and on many occasions, pressured to lower prices, which I have absolutely NO authority to do (do you realize I could be fired for that?!?! Just because I'm sitting at the register does not mean I can just up and alter prices...I CANNOT!
Seriously, the cashier has no say our control in these things. None. Ive heard people argue this practice saying that "well, they have to complain to somebody" if they want change made. Well, at the cashier in a nasty tone is frankly far from the most efficient tactic. It's not like the company asks for our feedback on what customers tell us about their opinions on the store, and if we bring it up, its not like we're really listened to, anyway. We aren't. We dont have any say in things or any authority and pull in making a difference about issues like that. All you're doing is coming off as mean and frustrating us. I always smiled anyway, and tried to assure them things like the fact that the food recall was frustrating me, too, but when people are in a mood, sometimes answers like that aren't good enough for them; they still act like I ought to have some responsibility and fix it for them, unreasonable as that technically is.
If there is something wrong with your experience that is bigger than the cashier at the bottom rung of things (prices, things out of stock, disagreement with a product, store policy, etc.), the cashier is not the most effective party to go to. If you must, and the issue is in-store (not recieving floor help quickly, etc.) and not company wide, kindly let the cashier know that you wish to speak to a manager about something (without taking it out on the cashier, or the manager for that matter--just inform reasonably please, dont fly off handles), or, if it's a company wide issue that nobody in the store really has any control of (prices, products available, store policies), please look at the receipt for a number or email to contact about customer satisfaction, and express the issue with them...gently, please, as the person who picks up the phone probably has no direct pull in the decision that upset you, either, but does have better connections to get your opinion recorded or problem better resolved. Be nice to people who didn't directly harm your experience, seriously. Don't treat people unreasonably.
I've never worked at a grocery store, but have been a cashier so I totally get the frustration. when I go food shopping, I always sort my things to make it easier for the cashier and bagger. I try and do this everywhere I go, actually. they're usually appreciative.
I haate coupons with a passion. I hate when the stupid register doesn't process the coupons. or when it's expired or they got the wrong thing and they try to argue like you're lying. like, no lady I'm not lying about the fact that you can't get a discount. trust me, I want you to spend the lesser amount as well! ugh, retail!
Haha vala maybe I should add that to my list :P
I felt really bad for my cashier the other day. He looked to be between 16-19 ish. It was just me and him there and I accidentally let out a silent gag inducing potentially suffocating fart. I'm pregnant and don't have the best control. He had to ring up my items and run my card while trying not to breathe or act rude. What's worse is that a guy came up to help him bag my stuff and blamed him for the noxious fumes. I scurried away quietly with my things and my shame.
@boobie.tassel that one only bothers me on super busy days when I have 6 other people waiting in line, and they want to price match EVERYTHING!!! Lol
Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
I need to ask someone this have you literally regret having a child with someone. I love my daughter with all my heart but I really regret ever being with her dad.
Netflix
I know all you ladies have some very good shows/movies you recommend.
I worked at walmart as a cashier and at the returns desk. People are such s*** bags! I had a lady try to return a damaged swimsuit (it had mouse chew holes in it). She tried telling me she just got it but the nitwit didn't realize the tags have the year on them. The suit was 5 years old. -__- I even showed her the date and she still argued about it. She just wanted the cash.
Or an old man that swore he got this recorder at walmart but it honestly looked like it was from the 70's and he was pissed bc we told him we couldn't send it in to get fix bc we didn't know where it came from and we couldn't replace it bc we didn't carry the item.
Both of those people were at my desk for over an hour yelling, making threats and generally making an ass of themselves. I hate retail bc of that experience. And don't get me started on Christmas.
