Washing baby clothes

Do you guys wash all your new baby clothes in baby detergent? Does it irritate baby's skin if you don't?

I used baby Dreft. washed all new born stuff and used it for the first few months and then started washing baby clothes with our detergent around 6 months

I just used our regular detergent with my first and will do the same with this one. I just don't use the fabric softener/dryer sheets because they are more scented.

I would wash them all before the baby wears them - you never know who touched those clothes at the store. And if it travels on a ship it is sprayed with formaldehyde - great preservative.

I will be using either dreft/Honest/babyganics or stuff along that alley. I am myself very sensitive to everything - rashes from creams, clothing etc. Hubby is the opposite - he could swim in bleach and his skin wouldn't care. Hopefully baby reaches happy medium.

I have some Dreft that I just randomly bought one day when I was at Walmart. I guess I'll wash some of his newborn clothes and just go from there. I'm open to any suggestions on detergent though.

I usually wash all the new baby clothes. After the baby is a few months I don't do this anymore. There is this great baby laundry detergent that they only have at the commissary. It is only a few dollars compared to targets $20. It smells so good too! Wish I could remember the name of it....

We used free and clear detergents with my daughter. This time I have just been washing things here and there (blankets, towels, etc) in our regular loads. He will come in contact with our clothes while being held so I'm not opting to change detergents at this point, unless it becomes an issue.

With my daughter, we had bought a big bottle of dreft and used it til it was empty then switched to whatever we used on our clothes. We never had any issues. This time we'll probably do the same, mainly because I love the smell of Dreft haha

I bought baby detergent and never needed to use it. I've usedour regular detergent no problems and she's never gotten a reaction. Its more used for babies who easily get irritated skin from the harsh detergents. As long as you don't overdo with regular detergent and clothes are properly rinsed which washing machine normally rinses twice, most babies shouldn't get an allergy

I would wash/wipe down everything baby may come into contact with when you first get it. Many of the clothes and item we buy are treated with pesticides when shipped out from manufacturers so you definitely want to wash that out/ wipe it off if you can. Baby has plenty of time to be exposed to chemicals and off gases from various sources.

Yes I use baby Purex, it's cheaper than dreft

Yes I did with both of my sons. With my oldest I washed everything because everything was new and some dyes can irritate baby's skin. And with my youngest I washed everything because I had a lot of things given to me and everything thing I had from my older son had been in storage. But I won't be washing anything with this baby because it's all clean already.

I just wash baby's clothes in my regular detergent (gain) just separately and with not as much as I would a load of our dirtier clothes. I figure everything else she comes in contact with will have been washed in gain. If she has a reaction I'll change to something else but so far none of my kids have had reactions. I did wash all of her NB & 0-3m onesies simply because I make small babies so I know she'll wear them but I didn't wash her little outfits and dresses yet. I left the tags on and will see what happens.

I usually washed new stuff before putting on my son for the first like 8 months and continued to with anything 2nd hand. I used baby detergent and then the all "free" detergent but now I just wash it with our detergent we have a full thing of all free lol. It doesn't have a scent and it didn't really seem to do anything - also did not get rid of scents ?. I just won't put fabric softener in with my sons clothes. The first 6 months I'll probably finish up the all free detergent but by then you should know how sensitive your baby's skin is. I have super sensitive skin on my face and my son didn't inherit that thank god. I have an Honest stain remover that does nothing - I don't recommend. I think as long as you use a Quality one there shouldn't be an issue but it can't hurt to use a gentle one for the first few months. There's chemicals and scents in the baby shampoos and creams so it can't be much worse than that I guess. I used Johnson and Johnson and i know a lot of people who were like "ugh those are loaded with chemicals" and I as just like yup and there's no issues with his skin.

I've been told to wash in baby detergent before they wear them but only a lil at a time because they may grow too fast and won't even get to wear them... I've also been told to wash new clothes in just water without any detergent to get the new clothes / dyes out of them...

Thanks! Did you wash them before your baby ever wore them though?

I use detergent that does have any smell or dye in it because myself and my boys have sensitive skin. I used the baby detergent and my youngest son had an allergic reaction to it. It honestly depends on the baby.

The first time I washed my daughter's clothes I washed them all in dreft. After that I didn't bother and she was fine. She just turned 2. I went ahead and just washed my son's in our regular detergent. I think he will be fine and I can always get the baby detergent if he has sensitive skin.

Probably a cray question to ask, but when did y’all start to wash your newborns clothes and putting them away? Like I’ve been getting clothes since I found out what I was having but I haven’t taken off tags yet or washed anything. I’m 30 weeks. It’s crazy because with my other 3 kids I didn’t really wash a lot of their stuff at first (got lazy) ALSO what laundry detergent did you use if you didn’t use Dreft? Because i saw Pyrex for Baby an didn’t know if anyone tried it??
