waking up newborn to eat

waking up newborn to eat

So my daughter is the hardest to actually wake up to eat every 3 hours. She is only 9 days old! Idk what to do to help her wake up?! And how long should I continue to wake her up for?

I never woke my son up. Though, he never slept longer than a few hours, if even.

I've always heard/been told that once your baby hits their birth weight again, you don't have to worry about waking baby to eat.

Once they regain their birth weight I wouldn't wake them up. Trust me, baby will let you know when she is hungry lol

After dd regained all her weight I let her sleep. She's almost 4 months, weighs 15-16 pounds, and can sleep up to 9 hours straight at night. She does just and there is no way I'd wake her up.

I was told once they regain their birth weight, it's safe to let them sleep.

Never wake a sleeping baby to eat, they will wake when they are hungry. They won't let themselves starve.

I would let her sleep as well. Babies will let you know when thy are hungry, unless you have specific instructions from her doctor or she has some other medical issues.

I've been reading up on this since I want to be prepared in less than 2 months when my own comes. And I believe what I read was let the baby sleep, as long as it isn't past 6 hours and they have enough wet diapers.

I wake mine up because he sleeps for 5-6 hours at a time. I normally just pick him up out of his crib & that wakes him. Will continue till he's about 10 months old

I don't know what the right answer is here, with my first the hospital and lactation nurse had me so nervous about not letting my baby go past two hours that I set an alarm to go off and woke her up . I think that made things worse. My second I just let sleep and let him wake me up. I would only be concerned if you dont feel the baby is feeding enough and not having enough wet diapers.

Is she bigger than original birth weight? If so I would feed on demand

Some may disagree but I wouldnt wake her up. Your baby will wake up when they are hungry. Let the baby sleep.
