Solar Eclipse 2017

Is anyone else excited to see the solar eclipse? I can't decide if I want to drive north to see the total eclipse or stay where I am to see 92.5% of the eclipse. I just ordered our safety glasses from Amazon. They are going fast.

@Steph I live in nebraska as well but about 2.5 hours from Omaha. Luckily we live in the total blackout zone, so we don't have to drive anywhere. But I'm jealous that you are going to Beatrice because Bill Nye the Science Guy will be at the Homestead National Monument for the eclipse.

Dang, I would have to drive a long time to see it. Dang living in Alabama ?

My husband is a total space nerd and the 21st is his birthday. He's been planning this all year lol. We'll be taking our 4yr old dd with us and driving 9hrs north, he's so excited.

Regular sunglasses won't work. Never look directly at the sun. It can cause permanent damage. Please protect your eyes! This article explains it better than I can.

Jelly, I also live in Omaha!!! My family is driving to Beatrice where it will be a total eclipse and they have a bunch of events going on at the Homestead National Monument.

Yes!! Thank you pp! 99.3 % I should probably order some glasses

If you go to this site, you can just enter your zip code and it'll tell you how much you'll be able to see at what time.

Нравится Ответить

agree with jellybeans33 i saw the chart but it goes up to Oregon i live in northern cali. but im not driving 3 hours north to see it lol.

Нравится Ответить

I'm so confused! I'm trying to figure out where your getting the percentages from?! I'm in Omaha Nebraska! Can some one tell me or at least tell me how your finding it lol

Нравится Ответить

Aww man only 77% here :(

Нравится Ответить

Following for an answer to @Brenn's question.....

Нравится Ответить

Can't you just poke a small hole in a piece of paper instead of buying the glasses?

Нравится Ответить

My bil and sil live on the path of totality! They will have a great view! They are renting out rooms in their home and their driveway and land for people to set up campers even. I'll be watching the partial from CO.

Нравится Ответить

I'm in ma it looks like we will be able to see some....stupid question: why aren't regular sunglasses going to work vs buying the other glasses?

Нравится Ответить

That's my daughters birthday! But we're in New York ?

Нравится Ответить

We'll be at 93% here in Kansas. My DH and I are excited! Trying to figure out if we should keep our son in school or not, or if they'll be letting out. He's only in elementary school.

Нравится Ответить

Supposedly our school district is getting glasses for all the students (I know for sure at least the elementary kids) because we'll have 99.7% around 1:00 pm. Super excited!

Нравится Ответить

Looks like I will be seeing about 83.3 percent of the eclipse ☺️?

Нравится Ответить

Is east Tennessee a great spot to view it?? Cause that's where I live LOL, well right on the East Tennessee Virginia border. I'm excited about it regardless

Нравится Ответить

@ermosabianca wear a red shirt and a safety pin ?

Нравится Ответить

Next month rite yeah i already noted that i need to put my red hiphuggers on #mexicanthing

Нравится Ответить

They've cancelled school here for the eclipse. My husband will be at work deep underground so he won't get to see it. ?

Нравится Ответить

East Tennessee or west Kentucky look like the closest spots for me. Columbus has a 89% eclipse. I honestly am considered the drive... with young kids lol

Нравится Ответить

Ohhhhh that would be fun!! lol

Нравится Ответить

@iris, you can stay at my house.

Нравится Ответить

I'm considering driving to Tennessee to see it in totality. It's the first day of school here so I would have to delay my son's first day.

Нравится Ответить

Lefey, I looked again. Newark I believe will have 75%... so way better than I thought. I'm assuming it will be similar where you are.

Нравится Ответить

If you live in Oregon, you'll be the first to see the total eclipse. Specifically in Madras OR

Нравится Ответить

Lefey you're near me! I think it'll be the best around 2:45 but we will only see 40%or something like that.

Read all the info to understand the map and times for your area.

Нравится Ответить

Lefey... I don't know if you'll get to see much or any of it all the way up there... But look up an eclipse map to know for sure.

Lefey, let me see if I can find the website again.

Emmy, that's awesome that you're getting glasses for your class. It is usually a once in a lifetime event to see totality.

Нравится Ответить

How do you know how much of it you will see based on your location? I'm in northern MD/southern PA.

Нравится Ответить

I'm so excited! I bought our glasses months ago... total nerd, I know! We are driving an hour south to have totality.

Loverfly, that sounds like a fun reunion!

Нравится Ответить

I am so excited!! It's my students first day back at school and the eclipse is during dismissal time. ?I'm buying them all viewing glasses anyway. I wish my district would have a half day or change the dismissal. I think this is a huge event for kids! We are only going to get to see a partial eclipse here.

Babi, it's big news here, too. Lots of people are heading into the mountains to get a better view.

Нравится Ответить

To add, apparently the local school district here is excited as well lol. They are dismissing school 1 hr later so children aren't on buses during the eclipse. Some parents have mentioned they are skipping that day to view as a family as a result

Нравится Ответить

My family lives in a town in Wyoming where there is supposed to be the best viewing. The population is only 3,000 but it's expected to rise to around 10-12,000 during that time. My family is having a family reunion that weekend so I'm going to visit for the eclipse.

Нравится Ответить

If we drive about an hr southwest we can see the total, but we probably won't.

My dad is super excited. I don't know anyone else that is.

Amy, the 21st would be a very cool birthday!

Babi, that's my concern, too.

Нравится Ответить

I'm due August 27th but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for just a little bit early on the 21st because of the solar eclipse. We are naming him Orion after the constellation so I think it would be perfect.

I also have this weird set of 2s thing where it would fit in. My papa (grandpa) passed away on the 23rd, my mom's (grandma, papa's wife) birthday is on the 25th, my husband's birthday is the 27th (my due date), and his best friend's (our son will have his middle name Cameron) birthday is on the 29th.

Нравится Ответить

I've got to get us some glasses. We will stay in town inshaaAllah (90 something %), as I have a feeling travelling more north will put us into unwanted traffic.
