Cloth diaper defeat

I really wanted to do cloth diapering for my baby, but I've gotten ZERO support from people other than my husband and my parents. And hubs is only on board with it because it's something I want to do.

You are gonna get lots of opinions and unwanted advice. It comes with parenting. You parent your children the best way you feel. That's what matters. If you ever feel like you failed you haven't. It's all a learning experience. No one knows better. Keep that in the back of your mind always.

You do you! That's all that matters. And it's okay if you don't do cloth and totally okay if you do disposable. Whatever works for you! No one else's opinion matters.

I am not a cloth diaper person we use disposables. However I respect your decision to use cloth diapers. I have friends that strictly use cloth. I am so sorry people made you doubt your own parenting choices. Use those negative comments as motivation to prove them wrong! If cloth diapers are what you and hubby want then you can do it despite what anyone else thinks. It's your baby and your choice! I don't have any advice because like I said I don't cloth diaper but it sounds like you have a bunch of awesome ladies with great advice here in these comments. I hope they are encouraging for you!

I cloth diaper part of the time. Mostly at home. I had to stop at the beginning of this pregnancy, I couldn't handle the poop lol. So I've been lazy with it lately but am trying to be better about it.

I make my own diapers now but started out with some really cheap babyland diapers initially. Also if your going to be exclusively breastfeeding I recommend cloth wipes since it can all go in the washer, rather than picking out and throwing away disposable wipes.

Check your local area and see if there is a Facebook group devoted to cloth diapering! Moms who cloth diaper usually are very friendly and helpful to others interested in using cloth especially first timers!

I also did a combination of both for my second daughter. I used mostly "Chinese cheapies" Alva and Sunbaby. Never had a problem with leaks or anything. We usually did a disposable diaper when we were out of the house but that was just my person preference. Lots of people don't and it works fine for them. I also really liked prefolds and covers (thirsties) when she was little/not moving around much. I got some eBay. We bought way too many because they were cute and cheap! We will use a combination of both with this baby too.

I got a statsh of cloth diapers from an app called wish. Around $100 for 16 covers and 16 or so inserts. I'm going to give it a try. This will be my 4th child but first time trying cloth diapers.

Look up rock a bums and jungle roos! Also Zulily sometimes has great deals on diapers. BST groups on FB are great too. Diapers are an investment, don't get the cheapest covers you can find or you'll just be making more work for yourself when the pul separates and leaks. Buy one or two diapers (covers and inserts) per paycheck starting now, you'll have a full stash in no time. Flour sack towels, hemp or cotton, are great as cheap inserts and they dry quickly. You can usually find themed holiday flour sack towels after any holiday discounted at least 70%

I use both with my son, cloth for at home and disposables for trips and going out. I used Sunbaby All in ones, they're a little more affordable and worked really well for us! It's not as big of a struggle as people make it seem, I mean, babies mean a lot more laundry anyway, what's one more load, lol.

You can do it!!!

Working at a day care I had a little boy in cloths! He did get a really bad diaper rash often (scars, bloody bottom, whole thing) but mom eventually found that coconut oil on the babies bottom at every change helps tremendously and doesn't affect the absorbency of the diapers!!!(:

If a single mother at age 18 who was constantly out and about with baby (newborn to under a year no disposable diapers were used) can do cloth diapers you can do it! Prove them wrong. It's not that hard plus it saves money big time. Kleenex work as liners by the way. Always carry a plastic bag with you in diaper bag along with a spare set or 2 of clothes, the diaper pins from dollar store work really well and make sure you get the diaper covers that have a plastic lining inside to save from getting clothes wet, there are covers that are just decorative. (suggestions that you may already know but I have forgot some of them a few times, lesson learnt). If tou arent able to find cloth diapers you can make them (im sure you can find a pattern online). As for diaper rash that is not true at all. With my son 12 yrs after my daughter, he had really bad rash and after a day in cloth diapers it was clear. Good luck!

I do both. I have a ton of friends who cloth. Do you know anyone who does? I would latch on to them and get to know their routine and that alone will make you feel confident enough to pull it off!

I travel a ton so it's not always an option for me. Finding a coin washing machine at a hotel for diapers is just a little extra but at home I do sometimes. But if you have your own washer and don't mind the minimal cost in running a washer almost daily (depending on your diaper supply and space) go for it!

I did it with babies 5&6 and will do it for baby 7. Will have newborn in diapers and be potty training a toddler but cloth is sooooooo much better! Not to mention cheaper. No one was on board with me but my husband knows once I decide to do something I don't care what anyone thinks. But our girls never had a diaper rash and it was way easier not to mention cuter than everyone thought, now people come to me about how to get started!!

I've got a couple comments of "good luck with that!" with my decision to cloth diaper. But hubby is on board. I even made a note on my shower invites that cloth diapers are on the registry so that people don't bring me boxes upon boxes of disposables. No one has bought any yet, and my shower is a week away. Hubby and I are fully prepared to buy them ourselves. Since I'm a stay at home mom, I'll be the one dealing with it most of the time. And I've decided if she's spending time with the grandparents I'll send her with disposables. Or if we find ourselves in a situation where I won't have access to a washer every day, such as on vacation/camping.

Don't be discouraged! The only people that need to be on board are you and your husband! Don't listen to others opinions, they're not that ones that will be changing bubs bum :) and from what i've heard cloth diapers save a ton of money long term! :)

Thank you ladies! I think this is what I needed to hear. I have gift cards I got from the shower. There's only a few things we need to buy, but I'll use the rest to start my stash!

You can do it! It's so great not having to run out for diapers and they have gotten so easy and adorable since I did it with my first baby 8 years ago. My only recommendation is go up a size in pants because of the bulk. Good luck!

I am in the same boat. I so want to cloth diaper for a variety of reasons and no one is behind it. No one. It sucks. But I refuse to buy diapers. I don't like the look or feel of disposables, or the wastefulness or the environmental impact. We can do it!
