My twins were di/di.

I saw my RE at 6 and 7 weeks for ultrasounds, then was referred back to my OB. Saw him at 10 weeks for an ultrasound, and then pretty much monthly until I was in the 20s... then every two weeks and then weekly in the 30s. He did at least a quick ultrasound at every appointment to check heartbeats, as opposed to using a Doppler. At the end of the pregnancy I had weekly BPP and growth ultrasounds.

I saw the MFM at 13 weeks for my NT scan and 20 weeks for my anatomy scan. When everything checked out fine at 20 weeks, he referred me back to my OB full-time, with the option to come back if any issues cropped up as the pregnancy progressed. Never needed to go back, though.

What is an RE, and what is an MFM?

RE = Reproductive Endocrinologist. A doctor specializing in fertility.

MFM = Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor. The high-risk OB.

I'm in the UK and I started having monthly growth scans followed by a high risk consultant after 20 weeks. Mine are both DI/Di too. I'm now 34 weeks last one will be 36 weeks then booked in for induction at 38. X

I'm 20 weeks and only see my OB. He hasn't said anything about me needing a MFM. I know I get monitored more closely at 28 weeks, but pretty sure that just means more ultrasounds at his office. Definitely pick up the book When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets and Quads!

Mine are mono/di. I was referred to a MFM for the NT scan + being high risk at 12 weeks. The MFM dr. expects to see me every 3 weeks for now then eventually increasing visits to every 2 weeks.

I suggest focusing on what the other ladies with di/di pregnancies. Guidance for other twin types differs.

Seeing an MFM around 13-16wks seems pretty standard, as well as for the 20wk anatomy scan.
