sleeping in swing?

My 2 1/2 month old has his first cold. We went to the doctor today and she suggested that since he's congested he could sleep in his swing for the next few nights until it clears up. Ftm and I thought it wasn't safe for babies to sleep in swings over night? He's waking up to eat every two hours and I haven't slept in almost four days. Does anyone else find it weird she suggested this??

My son use to sleep in swing when he was congested too. We also would turn on the shower and close the bathroom door and sit on there with him for 5 minutes or so, so the heat and moisture would help his congestion. Hope your little one feels better soon!

Eta: i did have issues getting him to sleep back in his crib when he felt better because the crib didn't sway like the swing.

He had croup for 2 months

My son had croup at 4 months and the swing helped him (and me) sleep. His chest was really congested and needed to be elevated just to sleep.

The doctor said as long as he was safely secured I could leave him in there. He never fell out

Mine slept in the swing forever. Try it for a few nights along with a vaporizer or something. Should kick the congestion real quick

DD slept in her swing when she was sick until she outgrew it. I told her doctor and they said good because she needed to be elevated.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate you all sharing your experience. I guess I have "swing guilt" that I should be holding my baby 24/7 especially now that I'm working again. I'm happy to see other moms using the swing when lo is sick.

My dd used to take afternoon naps in her swing and on a few nights would sleep at night there if she was having reflux issues. It wasn't a long term thing.

My son is 1 and he still has a night every once in a while where he sleeps in his swing. When he was 10 months he had rsv and slept in his swing for two weeks straight. His pediatrician was okay with it since it helped him breathe.

Ds slept in his bouncer for a while.. I would've done the swing but it went to fast for sleeping so he didn't like to sleep in it.

Dd slept in her swing often. She had terrible colic and that was the only thing, besides a hair dryer, that would calm her.

My son sleeps in his swing at night. He's colicky and wouldn't sleep any other way. I asked his pedi and he said it was fine. I do keep the swing right by my bed.

@Momma my daughter uses her car seat like a bouncer lol she near decapitates her head on the real bouncer.

You can try the car seat. Dd slept in her car seat due to reflux.

My daughters love the swing. I wouldn't leave it on. That's bad. But I think the doctor is trying to explain that baby needs to be upright. My ten month old thinks that's her bed and just uses it to sleep.

My first daughter loved it all the time. Then again it had music then. Anyways, back to your situation. Follow doctors advice unless your gut says no.

For the first few months of my sons life he slept in a rocker or his swing/ bouncer... He wanted to sleep on incline and would cry If he was laid flat

I don't think it will hurt for a few nights.

You may need to elevate your babies crib/cot to help with breathing. Put a pillow or blanket under the crib mattress under the head area so that it ll be elevated like a hospital bed.

Dr is suggesting it so that baby is sleeping elevated. Sleeping in an elevated position while congested helps with breathing.
