Ftm so pardon my ignorance. Does a list of foods to avoid while breastfeeding exists? Or does it just depend on the baby? I'm 39+7 and plan to ebf.

Honey and shell fish are the main ones to avoid.
I have heard chocolate can decrease your supply

Thank you. They gave me a booklet about bf-ing, but diet wasn't covered. My mom told me she had to avoid chocolate all together while she breastfed me.

I have heard beans broccoli and gas types foods can make baby gassy. I don't eat them and dd seems less gassy. It's all trial and error for what is right for your baby. I also can't have dairy or soy ?

There really isn't a list of *exactly* what to avoid while bfing. You can have honey... Lol you just can't feed it straight to your LO. It's trial and error to see what's right for your baby's diet. Like too many greasy foods or too spicy can upset their tummy. Dairys been known to cause problems but not for everyone. I do stay away from broccoli though but that doesn't mean you'll have to. Google a list of what to avoid, it'll be better than one you get on here. In my opinion.

Thanks ladies for the help :) I should Google it. But since I was already in R&R I figured I would ask.

They have been eating your diet for 9 months, so they should be ok with what you ate then. I eat whatever and haven't noticed any problems...I do keep track of what I'm eating in case she has problems later, so far we've been doing well. Knock on wood!

Dairy and chocolate are big ones that can cause problems.
For me, I had to cut out dairy, chocolate(which wasn't hard as I don't eat it hardly ever), beans and acidic fruits. Those would make my baby's tummy tighten up and he would scream non stop from the pain.

I heard broccoli will make baby gassy so I always avoided it just in case. Also be mindful of caffeine intake because it could make the baby hyper.

I use to drink milk a lot and eat s lot of dairy when I was pregnant now I can't have hardly any dairy. So that don't always work with they ate what you ate saying. It's all about trial and error. You might not be able to have anything yummy or you might be able to eat everything under the sun and it be just fine.

Click the breastfeeding link on the website DrJen4Kids to get a scientific explanation about diet ans nursing from a pediatrician who writes policy for AAP and is also a breastfeeding/lactation consultant. I recommend her advice because she knows what she's talking about and can break down the scientific mumbo jumbo into easy-to-understanding explanations.

It really depends on your baby.
Caffeine would make all my LOs cranky by the end of the night. This lil peanut is not doing very good with milk. His poop goes all mucusy.
If your little one is colicky and acts like his tummy is bothering him just start eliminating the common gassy foods, and the other foods that usually cause probs. after a few weeks slowly add Back in one food at a time.
Unfortunately it's mostly a guessing game.

I didn't have to avoid anything while nursing. Sometimes people eliminate certain foods if they find it upsets their baby. It's case by case.

There was nothing I couldn't eat while nursing. If you notice fussiness though, dairy, broccoli, onion, spicy food, eggs and wheat are some of the most common culprits.

I avoid spicy food, and soda. That's it

Every baby is different. I've never had to avoid anything.

It's actually fairly uncommon for our diets to bother our babies. I have never had to alter my diet for either of my kids. Sometimes gas producing foods dna bother babies, as well as dairy and soy. But it is really not that common and definitely doesn't warrant preemptively changing what you eat.
