Everyone i recently talked to about a c section said to take stool softener and if you babe a scheduled one to start taking it a couple days before you go in. I've given a vaginal birth with my first and never took any but I'm sure it helps in both situations.

I was started on it by the nurses the day after delivery in the hospital and continued for a couple weeks at home. Never had an issue going. I had a vaginal delivery.

I was given stool softeners after delivery.. Maybe you can request a stool softener prior to the c-section..

They gave me some right after delivery and I had a c section. Drinking lots of water days before might also help.

I was started on them pretty much the second I got to the hospital for my induction. They are truly your best friend. Take them asap. :)

The nurses also gave me 2 pills during the day before I went home so when I went to the bathroom the first time, it didn't hurt at all.. but the second time, oh my lord.. I thought I was going to die... so maybe it wouldn't hurt picking up some laxatives for home.

If you are having a scheduled c section then I would recommend taking stool softeners before , i had an emergency c section and it hurt every time I tried pushing to go to the bathroom (mainly because your stomach was just cut open) Also, mixing apple juice and prune juice together and then heating it up works wonders !!
