How many to transfer?

We have two pgs tested embryos and I’m not sure if I should transfer 1 or 2 for my first FET. I’m 33yo and I have PCOS. Even trying to get this process started bc after 10 days of Prevera and 10 days of Lupron I still haven’t even gotten my period. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your support! Means a lot. I would add that transferring one at 35-37 is about a 50% chance of conceiving a Singleton while transferring 2 ups the chance of conceiving a singleton by 75%. So it basically increases your chances of getting ONE by 25%. The chance of both of the embryos taking is their grade and quality of the egg and sperm. If I didn’t have a few extra free FETs, I would have transferred 2. Like Baby4ever said, some REs won’t transfer more than 1, but if you have multiple factors working against you, like over 35, bad egg quality, PCOS, multiple history of MCs, etc, I think prudent REs would be willing to transfer 2 since your percentage of success goes down overall. I don’t know the risk of losing both if one fails so something else to think about. ?

I had this same exact question in the beginning of my fet and although we would have loved to have transferred two, other unforeseen elements were out of our control preventing us from doing so. Due to our history with our fresh cycle we figured we get two again but unfortunately not this time. We’ll be doing one last IVF cycle if our FET goes south.

It’s really all up to the embryos on whether or not they want to continue on. Mentally we want to put in two and what if they stick however physically the body doesn’t handle it well due to the health risk. At my new and former clinic they only allow SET. So even if we wanted two they’d advise against however we may think otherwise. You may want to check out the multiples board or google health risk with multiples to give you an idea of how it’s handled... Good luck with whatever you decide!

L- I’ve been following your story. I’m so sorry you’re going through such a rough time.

I think you’re right... I’d rather have twins than have it not work and I’m going to ask my RE to transfer two

I’m 36 and have PCOS. I chose to transfer one because of I am on a program that will cover two additional FETs if this one doesn’t work. I’m not sure how viable my pregnancy is, I find out tomorrow but I think this question is best answered by which you would be make upset about. Fear of twins or fear of not getting pregnant at all.

I was in the same situation as you with 2 PGS tested embryos. I decided to transfer one because I did not want some lining/receptivity issue to be the cause of the fail and lose both of them. It worked for me!

I live in a country where it's actually rare to transfer more than one. FS here believe a multiples pregnancy puts too much stress on mum and babies so try to reduce it by only transferring one. I had 6 ET all single when I was between ages 27-30. So I'm on their wave length in only transfer one.

Tough decision! I️ transferred two my first round and neither took. They were average quality but also our only embryos that made it to day 3 for a transfer. Second round, I️ had 2 excellent quality embryos and 2 other great quality embryos. After the heartbreaking negative result the first time, we decided to transfer both excellent quality embryos. Both took! I️ was very against electively choosing twins round one. I️ think I️ got used to the idea and that helped me decide to transfer two the s3cond time around. With that being said, I️ am 36 weeks with twin girls and never ever thought I'd complain a peep about pregnancy because we waited so long for it....but oh my twin pregnancy is HARD. Not everyone has the same experience, but it started with 16 weeks of hyperemesis and I️ also have a separated pelvis from the extra weight and pressure. I️ had a placental abruption and was experiencing pre term labor at 29 weeks and have been on bed rest since. It's a very scary road trying to keep these babies in! I️ would not change what we did, but moving forward, I️ will only transfer one embryo at a time. Not trying to be negative or discouraging...I️ just wish I️ had listened a little more to my dr about the risks of twin pregnancies. I️ know what it's like to feel impatient and to want to increase your odds....good luck in your decision and your fet!

Hi Brooklyn so there is no wrong answer on how many to transfer it’s just a personal choice I personally rather risk getting two than getting zero although even with two nothing is guaranteed I just feel like it brings up my odds but I also had more embryos and a lot of family around to help so it was an easy decision for me and the hubby but there are logical women that the idea of twins is overwhelming and decide to do one at a time which makes perfect sense as well You just have to decide what is best for you. No wrong answer here
