High amniotic fluid

Okay so, I was 34 weeks at the time of this ultrasound. I just got my results and now I'm freaking myself out ? has anyone here had high amniotic fluid when pregnant? Yes, I'm going to be that girl and ask all of you lol. I didn't have gestational diabetes when I did the glucose tolerance test and I haven't had any complications except a little bit of protein in my urine and my blood pressure went up slightly at my last check up. No swelling and I feel just fine. I'm measuring at 35 weeks, but we all know that could be wrong.

Towards the end of my pregnancy (37 wks) i had high water levels and had to go for stress tests. The dr I spoke to told me I had to do the testing just because it was "outside the normal range". But then my blood pressure went up and my son was measuring big so they wanted to induce. (I ended up going into labor on my own before 39wks) but as far as I know, I just had a lot of fluid.

Update: They ordered me another ultrasound and are doing urine analysis plus basic other labs checking my liver, kidneys etc just in case. I may have to test for GD again even though I passed easily the first time. They said I am measuring full term already at 34 weeks. They pulled me from work today because of high blood pressure. I go back to the doctor to check blood pressure and labs on Thursday. ? feeling very stressed out.

With one of my kids I don't know how high not was but at 32 weeks I was measuring 45. It sucked. Because of high water

He was in NICU for a week while we waited for the full diagnosis and tests. CHARGE syndrome is usually associated with it, so they were busy ruling out symptoms of it. We also had to wait for a home heart rate monitor and go through training for it. Had to take several training courses through the NICU to respond in an emergency (CPR, choking, etc).

To correct it, we had to wait until he hit a certain age or weight. Whichever came first. 22lbs or 1 year. We were able to schedule surgery at 20lbs. They drilled a hole through the bone and placed a stent to keep it open during the healing process. Removed the stent with another surgery, but it was so worth getting it done.

I really hope you're just unlucky and happen to have excess fluid. It can happen sometimes. Choanal atresia is so difficult to live with with a newborn. Bilateral (both nostrils) is worse than his one nostril and requires immediate intervention. Praying there's nothing wrong!!

@Cassey, interesting you say that because my baby is already measuring 6lbs 1 ounce and I'm only 34 weeks.

Thanks for the info!

@babypuff I'm not sure. They did make a comment that the technician didn't take a picture of some areas and it could be referring to that. It's hard to decifer.

@furjax what did they do for your baby that had choanal atresia? I haven't heard of that before.

I had super high levels in week 40, no GD!!! No complications, and minimal leg swelling. Not to freak you out but they also measured my baby boy to be 9+ lbs give or take. He ended up being 9lbs 8oz. The major concern my midwife told me with the excess fluid is to keep an eye if my water broke at home...which it did. That much fluid could push the umbilical cord and then be clamped in cervix, if this happened I was to call for an ambulance (as oxygen would be cut off from baby). If water broke at home and no umbilical cord hanging out just go straight to the hospital, as normally their offices would have one come in for a labour check first.

Thankfully we weren't in an emergency situation and we just went to the hospital and they had a room ready for us to go straight to. But boy there was a LOT of fluid that seemed to never end, or when it did it was just a tease and more would come out . I left a trail from elevator to my labour room!!! So glad I had all weather tech mats in my car so cleanup was very easy. Just check with your Dr. or midwife and see what their recommendations are for you in any circumstance.

I had high fluids due to GD. I had to get weekly stress tests and ultrasounds. Kick counts at home are very important. I had so much fluid that when my water broke it leaked for over an hour.

I had polyhydramnios and had to take the glucose test 3 times due to constantly reading high amniotic fluid. I was negative for GD everytime. The only other thing they looked for was to make sure my daughter was swallowing like she was supposed to and filtering through the kidneys correctly. Everything checked out fine with her body and now I have a beautiful 3 year old.

Did they scan the kidneys? Sometimes polyhydramnios can be cause by kidney failure. Their kidneys just don't filter all of the fluid.

Mine was at 37. My son has choanal atresia. It's a bone blockage in the nasal passage. It causes them to not be able to regulate fluid as well as normally. Polyhydramnios is the first sign of this. It can definitely be other things though.

With my second, I didn't have extra fluid. We did have him cath'd though through both nostrils to make sure he didn't have the issues as well.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions or anything.

I'm no expert but if I had to guess I would say a lot of amniotic fluid is better than too little. The baby drinks that and pees that fluid so I would say you shouldn't worry.
