But she probably makes BANK so that's why she won't. I'm like 30 miles outside of SF and rent prices are almost halved.

She could at least move out of SF... it's way too expensive.

Well if she's been saving 75% of her check for the past five years she should have 40 grand saved up. Seems like she could probably get an apartment.

@Zelda there is such a homeless crisis in SF because the cost of living is so high and they just set up little encampments everywhere. She's probably waiting for a housing voucher but she has her own room at a shelter with 3 meals a day. She's got somewhere to take that baby that is extremely safe but she chooses to sit on a street corner. $900 a month is PLENTY when you aren't paying rent/utilities/groceries/insurance.
We donate our money to various charities. All of the baby stuff DS has outgrown has also been donated to a women's shelter. What I'm not going to do is hand out cash to those who don't truly need it. This woman has an income and has absolutely no bills. Again, not mad that she's homeless... mad that she's using her baby for sympathy.. for tax free money.. with an admitted past addiction problem and "smokes like a chimney".

How far are you supposed to help ppl and let them drag their kids through life with their terrible choices? Should we give her a home and make her work? Not expect her to work? Give her money and food but no home? Build more homeless shelters? Build mini pre fab homes? Give tax incentives to ppl to take on the homeless?

Breaks my heart.
But what truly breaks my heart is that people wanted her baby to be taken away instead of offering her money, food, help or a job.
There are many people out there that have sooooo much money..and spend it in useless ? why not help the ones that truly need it.

I have no problem if grown adults want to be homeless, but that isn't a place for a newborn. I'm sure she can afford a small place. You have to remember too everything she makes is tax free. I'm sure she collects wig and food stamps too. I have no issue with assistance at all, if you need, use it. I think this lady just doesn't mind the situation she's in and isn't trying to make it better for her child. Why can't she get homing assistance??

My grandmother gets $943 a month in ss and lived on her own until my dad asked her to move in She also got a whole $16 a month in food stamp aid. She applied for elderly apartment housing and her rent was like $180 a month. It's possible if you really want to.

She may be homeless but she might be better than alot of these moms who aren't homeless . Bless that baby ...

Makes me so sad and makes me want to give that baby a home. ?

I bet she's making bank out there on the street too. She probably makes enough to rent a room.

@asuka the cost of living is ridiculous in SF. She wouldn't be able to even get a studio apt with $900/month.. so I understand the shelter but def not the panhandling
deleted-user·
The cost of living in San Francisco is astronomical. Still, panhandling on the streets of San Francisco is no place for a baby IMO.

There is SO much other assistance available and I'm sure she gets more than SSI. I don't believe she really cares about her child. It's super chilly in SF being by the water not to mention the wind. There is always SO much crime down on Market Street. Drug use, etc. I think this is pure greed. I would maybe have some sympathy if she wasn't on any type of assistance and HAD to panhandle for baby things but that is not the case.

She gets $900 a month, panhandles, and can't at least get something a super simple place to live? What's the cost of living there? Where I'm at if you get your water/electricity/etc, turn off you can get your children take away.

Yeah I can't get on board either. I'm just thinking of all the crazies that are out on the streets that could possibly harm the baby. ?
deleted-user·
I live in the Bay Area so I've heard about this on the news. The thing that upsets me is that she is using her daughter for sympathy to panhandle. She even admits to getting almost a grand a month from social security. They have a room at the shelter. I don't condemn her for being homeless with a child but she needs to keep that baby off the streets. People are so crazy down there. Her social security benefits are more than enough to care for that baby without begging for money.
deleted-user·
She's exposing the baby to harsh weather and crazy people. A baby should be safe, warm in a house, not the streets. I'm so sorry she's in that situation, but she should think about what's best for the baby.

Makes me sad
