Worst job.
What's the worst job you've ever had? How long did you last there? What was so horrible about it. How much would someone have to pay you to work there again?
Mine was working at a little ice cream shop run by a crazy lady. She fired me because I had a bad day the FIRST day I worked after she started serving food. I was 18 and didnt know that the thing you sit on top of hamburger patties while they cook (I guess to sear the meat?) Could be put on top of more than one patty at a time. That was the big reason why she fired me. Because I didnt cook the hamburgers correctly and cooked them 1 at a time.
No amount of money would be enough for me to work there again. I haven't even gone there for ice cream since that happened 5 years ago ?
A small town steakhouse...I was the only black employee, and whenever black people came to eat there, it seemed like the whole staff had an issue with it. One time a black family came in, and my coworker said "Is it Martin Luther King Day or something?!" The only reason they tolerated me is because my father is a cop, so I must be "good". Then my manager would always want me to change because I had "too much butt". And the older men that came in would always hit on me...I worked there for 4 months and never went back. You could cut the racial tension with a knife lol
My very first job was at Moe's and I hated it soo much ?? I worked there for a couple months and then got into bartending and cocktail waitressing... I made sooo much money that I can't really complain about any of those jobs lol. When I was like 6 months preg. I didn't feel comfortable being behind the bar so I got a job at Walgreens and worked there the remainder of my pregnancy...it was the most boring job ever omfg
Chuck E Cheese's for 2 years. It was my first job and SUCKED. From cleaning up vomit and piss out of the sky tubes to being there until 1am on school nights, and worst of all..... having no choice but to dress up as Chuckie Cheese!!!!!!!! Could not pay me to go back there.
Chevron. The manager there was a complete b**** to me. She wanted me out so she would put me on graveyard shifts. Here was lil 19 year old me working graveyard shifts with a weird ass co-worker. So many old men would hit on me, it was disgusting. These men were old enough to be my grandfather!
Oh, and the weird co-worker was such an a****** . He made me cry once. I hated him so much after that. I quit and 2 days later I got another job at a wonderful place.
I'll be the oddball and say I love retail! I'm a retail manager now and enjoy my job I find a lot of the operations and "upkeep" of a shop to be rewarding especially when numbers are doing good! There's a lot of benefits depending where you end up (big company vs small boutique vs high end)
The customers can be really draining and there are days people are beyond needy or just come in with a nasty attitude looking to pic a fight but you grow a really thick skin being here. I've learned to be "nice nasty" LOL
The job I hated the most was at Chipotle and I was there for like 3 months, it's the only place I ever walked out of ?
I was never "trained", from day 1 I was just told to clean the lobby and keep everything stocked which was easy enough. When I wanted to go on the line somehow I "couldn't do anything right." How hard is it to plop a scoop of rice and beans into a bowl? Apparently there's a science to it ?
F*cking @ssh*les
I was working for a temp agency when I was around 19, and they sent me out on a office assistant job. It was out in the middle of nowhere for a company that made pyrotechnics. There were signs everywhere that said Do Not Drink the Water. It was so creepy. When I came back from lunch, the boss said "I can't believe you came back. All of the temps leave for lunch and never come back!" I finished the day and went home and called the agency and told them I wasn't going back. A few months later, it was on the news that there was an explosion there and several people were injured. They got fined because so much was unregulated and not safe.
I was a front office assistant at a medical billing company. I started out in the clerical department, then moved to the front office, and then to insurance dept. Worst 3 years of my life. I stayed bc it was a job. I left two weeks before I had my last daughter and will never look back. They treat their employees more like slaves. I remember being late two Mondays in a row, both I spent that morning in the emergency room. The first I had found out I was pregnant c I went in because I was having horrible pains. The second I was having a miscarriage. I went into work anyways and when I did I got called into my managers office and yelled at then written up for being late. They were in no way concerned about what was going on. I even showed them the papers and explained what was going on. There were multiple occasions like this. You were basically there to cater to the owners and their kids. The owners were a husband and wife. They made that very clear. They had people in the office that would have to run personal errands for them. The wife was over the admin department and she told a girl that she didn't like her accent. She was Hispanic, extremely smart, and great at her job, but the owner didn't like her accent so she got rid of her. One of the guys who ran errands, going to the different hospitals and doctors office to pick up work, ran into the owners daughters ex. He mentioned it and they called a meeting about it and made him write a report about everything this guy had said to him. The husband had an office upstairs in HR. He could rarely keep a personal assistant for longer than a week. He of course hired bc of looks, but would get extremely loud and vulgar with them. He once had one of his PA's order his wife an edible arrangement for an anniversary. The PA didn't know his wife did not like honeydew melon and it was in the bouquet. She was fired. There are soooo many occasions of things like this happening. Being in the front office I had to mail out W2's and for a company that kept about 100 employees on average, we mailed out over 300 W2's a year. The turnover rate was ridiculous.
Walmart hands down (first job after graduating high school). Customers were rude as fvck. I was trying my best to be fast because it was the back to school rush. I asked this man how he was doing and I sh!t you not, his words to me were "I'd be good if the line would go faster". Then a lady was b!tching saying that her husband told her she should go to Target instead and wished she would've listened. Bye b!tch! I always make it a point to be polite to everyone everywhere I go because I remember being the one behind the register. I just had to fake it til I made it cause that's customer service ?
ETA: I lasted 3 days ?
Walmart. Was good for first 6 months. Was there a year. New shift manager got hired. Quickly realized if you are not a kiss ass to her, you are on her shyt list. Hours went from 35 to 20. Was told since I am a college student, I don't need to work so many hours... so guess I don't need to pay my bills either. ? put in my 2 weeks then and there. Left a week later.
That place could offer $30/hr. I would still never go back.
The worst was an office job that I had for a year and a half. I was a receptionist for a small company and never had anything to do. It was 5 hours a day and i think i read about 3 good sized books a week. I prefer my Highschool summer job as a corn detassler to that job lol
I got hired as an office manager, during the interview they showed me my desk and copier and the program on the computer. When I called back they gave me an address to go to, said I needed to do some training. So I get there and it's a sams club. The guy I met up with there was like ok, let's go over here and set up. It was the freaking people that give you samples there, that's what the job was!! The guy was like "come over here, want to put a new pizza on? You need to learn this is what you will be doing to work your way up." During "lunch" I left and never came back. WORST. PLACE. EVER.
Over the summer when I was in college, I worked for a private insurance company that was family owned. It was three family members - the mom, adult son & daughter and then one other lady & me. The mom was this old super crabby lady and ran the front office. I reported to her and did their filing & answered phones. She never smiled, was always stressed out, and criticized everyone. The son & daughter were okay but were always with clients. I lasted one month then quit. I felt bad for the other lady who worked there, she was miserable and was looking for another job. She kept telling me she might not be back the next day if she got an offer. I hope she got out!
Ugh I worked at a drug store when I was in high school. But it had a JC penny catalogue store within the store. Back before u could order anything online lol. (Really showing me age here lol) I had to take and place orders then call people when their orders came in. It was awful!!! I lasted only a few months there cause most of the customers were so freaking rude!!! Worst job ever!!!
Worked at a Chuckwagon dinner show several times in high school. It was a tourist place where people would come for a BBQ dinner and a musical show. All the employees had to dress like old west cowboys. We would serve the food and then my friend and I washed dishes. We literally had to put on the grubbiest stuff we owned first because we were literally wading in disgusting food scraps. As in, it got dumped on the floor, along with water everywhere to go into floor drains.... I still cringe when I think about it.
Hotel houskeeping hands down the worst job EVER!!.
The pay is horrible and the hours suck even more. I only lasted 6 weeks.
People would party in the rooms, throw up, piss and sometimes S**T all over the room and there would trash and condoms and alcohol all over the place. I had to clean a room one time that literally had blood all over the bed.
The worst part of the job tho was being told to come in at 8 and not knowing when we would be done and that caused problems for me with my boys in daycare they needed to be picked up by 6 and sometimes id have to pay a whole days worth of daycare and we would only work 2 hours and others we wouldn't be done until 6 or 7 at night and i would have to hurry and find someone to go pick up my boys.
Also the hotel I worked at had a time limit of 22 mins and no longer per room which was almost impossible on the good rooms not to mention the horribly disgusting rooms.
Cleaning houses. I can't believe how disgusting some people let their houses get and then call in cleaners and expect some type of miracle.
I hated cleaning houses with big hairy dogs because it was impossible to really get clean. I hated knowing little things about these people by being in their homes. I seen some weird things. Illegal things. It was crazy.
I lasted 6 months with a turnaround rate of about 2 weeks. My boss was verbally abusive.
I woke up one morning drove to work and went to my first house to clean with my partner and in the middle of cleaning I decided that I was done. I drove home and picked up my paycheck a week later.
I was a black jack/table games dealer at a casino. I know some people love it but I HATED it. It was a small casino so we had tons of regulars. They are sooooo rude. Especially when they lose. I started looking for a job in my field (pharmacy tech) and quit asap. Been with the job ever since! Almost 4 years ?? I would have to be given a million dollars up front to work there again ? f*** those crazy people. The staff was odd too.. bunch of what I call "townies". Never venture out and have more drama then a high school.
One time I got hired as a manager by this "new" perfume company..well a couple days later they said we were going to drive out to one of the sites that they advertise/market the fragrances at..so I said ok and rode with them....omg.....tell me why we pulled up to a Wal-Mart and as soon as they got out the car they started trying to sale the fragrances to people in the parking lot!!! Like literally people putting groceries in their car!!!...saying.."hello ma'am or sir, what kind of perfume/cologne are you wearing today????!!!!" ??...I called my husband so quick and was like please get me out of here!!! lol✌??
Working asa caretaker for the elderly. That sucked.. old people can be mean. One lady I was caring for would yell at me get mad at me for telling her to not to smoke near her oxygen thingy. One elderly man fell and I was trying to help him get up he and he was grabbing my butt. Oh and not to mention I went three months without pay. I quit and they paid me everything they owed me
When I was 14 I was a golf caddy lol my brother did it and I always wanted to do what he was doing. First of all it was miserable. I'm a tiny person and those golf bags were as big as I was. It was hot and humid and awful. Literally it was on the same golf course where R Kelley lived and this was back when he had all his weird sexual assault allegations. So any girl caddies couldn't go near certain parts of the course due to court order. His back yard was basically on the course and apparently underage girls weren't allowed w.in 500 ft. I made good money the 3 days I showed up but I got the worst caddy reviews so I was fired. Those old guys just felt bad for me and paid me anyway haha
UPS store associate: I lasted 2 weeks and I hate it because I had to carry/drag 50+ lbs across the store to the back exit. I was literally sweating all day ? (& i had to wear a uniform).
Office manager: I lasted 3 months, and it was 3 months of hell ?. What made it horrible was the co-owner. He called me a liar, raised his tone to much, had a thing against women overall, and the last straw was him saying his company was more important than my health ??. Overall it was just horrible. He would ask me to pay people under the table, lie to the IRS & State(s) he went as far as asking me to falsify reports. Yea no... ??
I lasted three months because previous to him joining the business the other owners were okay and more importantly they treated employees like people.
My first job was at a family owned Mediterranean restaurant at 14. I was paid under the table, so the money was good.
The owners were a couple with 3 kids, one 5 year old boy and two middle-school aged girls. The boy would walk around bossing his sisters around, calling them c**ts, b**** es, etc. and you can guess where he learned it from. If you look up the word "misogynist" in the dictionary, I think you would find the owner's (and dad to the kids) picture in underneath.
He called me so many names, called his wife names and was incredible abusive towards her. It was so stressful working there! Constant yelling and abuse. My only friend was a chef from the country Georgia, who spoke no English. He was nice though. Oh, and one of his favorite customers was a creepy guy who worked at the hospital with my mom and had a huge crush on her. He was stalkerish and would try to get on my good side because he found out I was her daughter. I had to walk to and from work, usually really late at night, and I was always so scared he would follow me home. Not related to my job, but he ended up getting into a fit of road rage and ran a young mother off the road, killing her on impact. He didn't even have to go to jail either because his lawyer somehow got him off of the charges despite the many witnesses.
Anyways, f that job. I worked there not too long, it was all kinds of facked up.
I worked in a girls group home level 14, crazy ass girls I swear, well this girl got upset because I didn't unlock the closet to get supplies out n she told me to watch my back b**** lol I said sure girl, about 2hours later I'm standing in the hall watching some girls play outside n the girl comes n starts choking me out, luckily some of my coworkers were close by n helped me out I was sent on break and never came back getting paid 10.50 and hour driving 2hours was not worth getting hurt. I lasted 2wks by the way lol
An oncologists office here. I was the MA & medical records person there for 3 months, quit on the spot. I was the longest fill for that position (their turnover rate was every 2-4 weeks for almost 2 years after I left).
sidenote: you have any idea the mass amount of medical records per pt in an oncologist office?! It was seriously a 2 person job just that. Never mind taking care of patients during office hours & doing blood draws for in office chemo patients. ??♀️
Back to what made it awful...
The doctor was a 2 year old tyrant that would throw fits, throw charts, and have legit yelling match arguments across the office with his PA while patients were waiting in the rooms. It was soooo embarrassing checking in a patient & hearing them argue outside the door. I spent most of my lunches crying in my car.
The day I quit the PA told me the doctor said if I didn't get the matching scrubs as the rest of the office employees by tomorrow I just shouldn't come in.... the scrub sets had all been discontinued before I was so hired so the agreement was to wear a like color (which I did). When I went to the PA at the end of the day to let her know I regretfully wouldn't be able to fulfill the request she chuckled & said "oh he didn't mean it." I replied, "I won't be in tomorrow" and gave my resignation on a sheet of copy paper from the fax on the spot.
I would never return... I left a verbally abusive marriage, I certainly wasn't going to work in one.
They mailed it to me. ?
They don't have barcodes so you literally had to type in the price for everything!!! And on top of that remember what is on sale which changes everyday. The person training me said she hated it and would leave if she could. I left after that and never came back.
Mine was retail. I worked at Forever 21, right after graduating HS and worked there for 4 years from Sales Associate to Co-Manager. I think the worst part about it was mean customers, I encountered a lot of crappy people but I also met some of the nicest people ever!! The hours sucked too but its retail and it paid my carnote lol Let's just say I will never work retail again. Even to this day when I find the time to go shopping, I will put clothes away and fix things up out of habit lol
Packing tomatoes next to the fields. It sucks i was there for about 2 months (my aunt quit who was my ride). We would work outside in 100+ weather, work 12 hours a day, 1 day off, paid minimum wage like $8 something, walk back and forth between the packing locations, they wanted everything done fast and perfect, and stinky port-a-potties. ? I would go back if i really needed the money. It sucked but gotta do what you gotta do.
My Donald's. I worked there only weekends and all they had me do was clean all day. My lead one day told me there was a toilet in the women's restroom that needed to be tended to. I walked in and it was backed up with s**t blood and urine. I asked my lead for PPE and she said the plunger and latex gloves would suffice. I walked out and told her it wasn't working she would have to call a professional for that. She gets mad at me and tells me to go fix it. Once I told her the s**t wasn't flushing she ended up calling the plumber.
There was a week we went through a nasty heatwave and some how the A/C "broke" customers didn't want to eat inside cause the heat was so unbearable, the kitchen was the hottest. Customers would come in, order and say how bad they felt for the employees then leave. I looked at the thermometer and it was 115 degrees. Finally some one called to complain. Turns out the A/C was never broken, it was just never turned on. By the time it kicked on it was already starting to cool down outside.
I hated working there so bad that in protest I'd skip out on the sad little meals they offered to the employees. Because of that I'd get coupons for free wraps. I always gave them away ?
My lead said she wanted to give me more hours. I said cool but by the time that happened, I bounced and landed a job with county. I've been with them for the last 5 years and wouldn't trade it for McDonalds.
