I believe in breastfeeding for many reasons and I will give my kids breast milk. That being said, I wasn't breastfed and I think I'm a damn genius!! ;)
Its important but I don't believe that makes babies smarter :) my daughter got a high iq and was bottle fed... its more what you actually teach your child and if u let it find out and explore stuff by themselves ... IMO

Either way, I plan to breast feed and pump as long as I can, but this is not why.
I read an article that said babies genetically have higher IQs if their parents have higher IQs. And parents with higher IQs are more likely to breastfeed. The studies showing breastfed babies are smarter need to take into account how smart the parents are as well.
I don't believe it makes every single baby smarter or healthier but I definitely think its a decision every woman should do a lot of their own research about. I believe it is the far superior choice to formula (look at formula commercials even, you'll see breast is best at the bottom usually) but can understand circumstances where there's difficulties and some women can't for some reasons. Having said that I think it's ridiculous when people don't do it because they think its gross or too time consuming. Of course there are studies that say there's no difference between the two but I think anyone who really looked into it would find that's its overwhelmingly the most recommended choice. I highly doubt you would find many or any studies saying formula made smarter or healthier babies.
No. The science isn't really there on a large scale. Plus it depends on the population they are using for the study. My daughter was exclusively breastfed I do think she is super smart. But I can do a study and pull my own population to favor a outcome. I believe in evidenced based facts and science that's peer reviewed. It's certainly true for me. My son has had ONE ear infection in 17 months and he's quite advanced for his age.
My girl friend, on the other hand, formula fed both her girls and they always seem to be sick with ear infections or bad colds. Her oldest has had so many ear infections, she needs tubes in her ears now.
My oldest sister breastfed her two girls for 6 months each. While one also had to get tubes in her ears, the other was very healthy. The oldest doesn't really care about school (more interested in boys) but my youngest niece is ridiculously smart!
Totally agree with the other formula fed mommies. I formula fed all my girls (breast fed my 3rd for a very short time about 4 weeks) and they are all extremely smart. But I am also a stay at home mom who interacts with them a lot. I think it all matters on the interaction with them and what and how you teach them.
I think its rubbish. I think you are smart from input and teaching/learning. Not what you put I'm your mouth. I know dumb arses that were breastfed. Lol.
Mine was breastfed the first 4 weeks and then formula fed because my supply wasn't good. She's 2 and knows her Abc's and numbers from 1-10. I believe it's all in how much you interact with them. Like others have said some kids catch onto things faster than others.
I do to an extent. I think alot of it has to do with how much you work with your baby. My son is very smart and i bf for 13mons and i have seen others who are smarter. Some babies pick up on things quickly and some take some time. As long as you love them and do your best they all get there. :)

Yep, sure do. I'm quitting my job in order to exclusively breast feed my baby for the recommended 6 months. I will then go back to work. I think it's extremely important.

Nope. My nephew was formula fed and he was in K5 this year he scored the highest 5% in the state on his testing.
