Pp iv also had friends tell me their kid would freak on the potty and they used the over the toilet thing and had no dramas then. Maybe try that?

I trained my son at 18months. It took me about a week to train him. It wasnt as hard. What i did was while at home i would only use undies (had to clean up a few accidents but no biggie) if we were goin out i would put on pull-ups as well as for bedtime. I honestly dont think pull-ups were a bad choice. I mean i used them and still trained him in a week. He did have a few leaks while sleeping whch is why im glad i had used pull-ups for bed time.

On Tuesday I let my son use his new undies he picked out for the first time. He Peed in them all before noon (even my couch). He would freak out when I put him on the potty after every accident. I guess he's not ready yet

In the beginning we did underwear during the day and pull ups at night and when we went out. Now we only use pull ups at night. I don't know how to break that habit.

We are starting the journey tomorrow and going straight into normal underwear. Many people have told me pull ups made the process longer.

Depends on if you son knows when he has to go?

For awhile I had my daughter in pull ups, maybe two months or so. And she was proud of it because obviously they pull up and down like underwear.

Then I let her pick out her own big girl panties and that's all she wants. We have accidents, just pee though. And she always knows right away. Because she'll run in the bathroom and say she has to pee while her panties are dripping /.\ but besides that she takes pride in keeping them clean and treats them like a privilege.

Pull ups have been working extremely well for my DS. I can't find any undies small enough to fit him, so we are using the Huggies pull up diapers.

So far, no issues and potty training is going very well. He just turned two.

If anyone knows where I can find undies to fit him, I'd be happy to know. Because an XXS small from crazy8 is still too big.

Okay so it shouldn't make it harder to potty train if I only use pull ups at night?

I think there may be a short window for pull ups, but if you put the child in underwear, they usually don't like thw wet feeling of peeing in real undies so they try to avoid it or alert you. Wetting the bed is ok occasionally because a child's bladder isn't terribly strong...just don't rely on them at night always if you think the child can handle it. Hex kept their daughter in pull ups at night after she was potty trained because she didn't want to clean up messes and it made the situation worse.

Pulls ups are diapers with different/no tabs. Not much of a change for a child to really grasp. There is no "uh oh" factor. If you are able, definitely go with trainer undies or regular underwear. When you get a new puppy, you have to be prepared for a certain amount of clean up until they understand. Same with kids :)

I would not use pull ups. They are just a crutch. wet undies and pants is gross feeling and they don't like it. Sorry to tell ya but cleaning up the messes is just part of potty training. There is no easy way around it.

Okay thanks guys! I was almost about to buy a bunch of pull ups this weekend.

I used pull ups with my oldest for months and his daycare lady asked my to bring a couple changes of clothing and big boy underwear to daycare and she would work with him. He had one accident and after that he was basically potty trained (except over night). I would still have to ask him all the time if he had to go but very rarely did he have an accident after we finally got rid of the pull ups. I won't be using them this time around.

My daughter potty trained fully in literally just one day at 18 months old.

Here's what we did:

Went out and bought panties, making a big deal of how cute they were, explaining that she didn't want them to get wet.

Then we put them on her at home and told her to tell us if she needed to go potty. The first night she would start to pee in her panties, then stop herself, tell us, and finish on the potty. We'd give her a sticker afterwards.

The next morning she told us every time before she needed to go and went on the potty.

This method works so great because wearing underwear the child gets to feel all the sensations of needing to go potty, actually going, and how to control it. They can't get that in a diaper or pull up that absorbs their pee.
