New Arizona bill is crazy!

A new bill proposed in Arizona would make it illegal for transgenders who have not completed a sexual reassignment surgery to use the bathroom of the gender they subscribe to. So a man who is in the process, has boobs, already had their gender changed legally on their license/ birth certificate would be arrested if they used the women's bathroom. Thoughts? I personally think it's crap. I've used men's bathrooms a lot if the women's had a long line and I really had to go.

Really?? We pay people to better the nation and come up with laws that benefit and protect us, and this is what they come up with?? I think their time could have been much better spent on other issues within the state.

I agree and disagree. I think that yes, they should be able to use whichever bathroom that goes with their gender. But at the same time, I saw a show where transgenders changed their minds about being transgender---all they had left to do is the surgery. If a transgendered person has gone through all the steps to change their gender then I feel that is when they should be able to use the bathroom of their gender.

If u not a man dont use the mens bathroom, just wait til u get a penis. Whats the definition of a man anyway, if u dont have the parts.

The things people make into laws is stupid. Maybe they should leave peoples personal lives alone. And take all that energy and acturally do something productive for their state/country

How would they even know????

a separate bathroom is not a good idea.

its bad enough there is a harsh group of people who hate anything they don't understand. let's not make people use "separate" things to alienate them even more.

AZ is acting like its a disease they will catch. smgdh. I wish we could beat the piss out of people like that.

I think I'd feel weirder using the washroom with a women who is living as a man. I mean, it's a man. What's he (she) doing in the woman's washroom?

who even cares about a transgender person in their bathroom??? like really, how could that make you uncomfortable??

this is a stupid rule and Arizona is becoming an example of basically everything I hate about this world today. so glad I live in New York...

I liked living in Arizona when I was a kid, but these days, it's become so conservative. I don't agree with a lot of their new laws or feel they are poorly written. I'm not very compelled to move back anytime soon.

If I have to pee and the womens room is closed or crowded, I use the Mens room so I guess Id get arrested too?

On a side note I once used the men's washroom at Walmart by accident. Since I'm a woman and identify as one its fine but if I identified as a man it would be illegal? Makes no sense!

Public bathrooms have private stalls so I can't understand why this would be an issue! I don't care who else is in there as long as they are in there for their own bathroom business!

I once had a lady try to stop me from taking my then 5 yo son into the ladies washroom so I guess some people are weird about these types of things!

It's crap. Everyone has the right to feel whatever gender they feel they are inside, it's not anyone else's place to say. And why do you care? They're going pee, it's not a dressing room. How would you feel if you were forced to go to a men's bathroom - not "oh the women's bathroom is taken I'll just go pee here real quick" but you're lawfully forced to go there even though it feels wrong. If you're curious there are a few great movies about being transgendered, a Belgian film called Ma Vie En Rose (My Life In Pink) is excellent.

In order for transgenders to even GET to the point of sexual reassignment surgery they are required to live life 100% as the gender to which they are transitioning for 6 months prior to surgery. At least that's how it worked in CA when my ex-SIL transitioned to a man. Using the men's bathroom was part of that "living as a man" she was considered a man by the state of CA before she ever had a penis.
