It's actually not that easy to beat a urine test. Our POs catch a lot of probationers that try to use other people's pee. Aside from watching them give the sample, they also check it for temperature, which is how most get it wrong. They make them give the sample at varied times during the interview so, most of the time, it's too hot or too cold.
Agree with melody, does this mean you'd have to test the father and the mother? And what about someone who's over the age of 18, do you test them as well? Or is it just the main person applying that gets tested? Bc I know a lot of teens from like 13+ that smoke weed or take pills what about them?? The parents can't do drugs but the teens can? Assuming the parents don't know....
I'm not against it in theory, but I hope there are never any mix ups that cause an innocent family to go without food or have their children removed. I once, as a teenager, had my urine mixed up at the ER with someone that was there on multiple hardcore drugs, it was horrible trying to convince them to test me again.
I think short term it might be costly but in the long term some people go on welfare for many many years. So maybe that is what they are shooting for? But I'm not exactly sure on the exact amount it would cost to run this program.
I agree but don't agree. If they test positive, how will they feed their kids when their benefits get taken away? I have heard many stories of those addicted to drugs that still somehow manage to raise their children. Look at all the stories on the news recently, parents addicted to drugs but still have children in their care.
Also, what if a family claims and the father is positive and the mother isn't? What happens then?
I would only agree if the kids are taken into care or somehow provided for, otherwise no.
I agree... it's always baffled me that it isn't part of standard procedure when collecting welfare yet so many jobs here require random testing!
