Don’t do it. Open gut is a real thing and a baby doesn’t need cereal at 4 months, just breast milk or formula. They aren’t even ready for it. Try oatmeal and purees around 6 months if your son is showing all the signs of readiness.

Spoon feeding cereal isn’t for reflux. Babies with reflux give wonderful signs they have it and only in extreme situations is cereal given since there are many safer options.

@zackemilymcguire, wait on solid food until baby shows all signs of being ready. And even at that point there are so many better foods than baby cereal. My kids started on veggies first avocado was a huge hit

Anyway OP I would ask doctor why he's recommending it before 6 months and before he is sitting up. Strange to me. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a doctor that's already not giving out good advice

@masseymomma16 her son doesn’t seem to have reflux based on this post, so that recommendation in this instance doesn’t work. Even with some doctors recommending it, it’s still a choking hazard. Nothing should be in a bottle but formula or breast milk.

My daughter hated cereal anyway, but we never did it either. I think we waited until 6 months to give her anything but breast milk, or whatever type of milk you give your baby.

I did my research on it and we skipped cereal stage completely. I think you can put it in his bottle instead of bowl though. I thought for spoon feed it is 6m or sitting.
