Nipple shields!!! I almost gave up till I got them from my midwife.

Ohh man! I'm struggling too it kills I end up backing away because ive built up a fear and she takes a while to latch from birth she hasn't really got to grips with latching . I have big nipples she has a small mouth and gets frustrated. I curl my toes every time she latches and I say to hubby I can't do this, but I want too so badly!. I think when the health visitor comes I'll ask for help. N watch videos

What worked for me: lanolin (lots of it!) and aim nipple to nose and make sure chin touches the bottom of the boob like the picture above shows. It seems weird, but dont aim the nipple straight in baby's mouth, aim more towards the roof of the mouth. It was very painful at first for me too, but I got through the pain by always trying to improve. Both you and baby are learning how to get it right after all. :)

Try putting a bit of breast milk on each nipple after each feed and letting them air dry, it really helps. It does get easier, in a few weeks you’ll be an absolute pro.

I promise it will get easier and easier! Currently feeding my 1.1 year old! It’s so freaking easy! I just love it! We literally only feed 3 times a day and it makes us both so happy!

Took a few weeks for me... once my nipples healed and got used it it was smooth sailing. 11 years ago with my first a lactation consultant recommended putting polysporin complete on my nipples in between feeds and it was a lifesaver. It has antibiotic & pain relief in it so not only did it help them heal faster it gave some relief for the pain. She told me just use a baby wipe and wipe my nipples before feeding. I used that with all 3 of my babies and suggest it to everyone having painful/cracked/blistered nipples. Hang in there it gets better I promise and you will never regret it!!

Breastfeeding hurts in the beginning because let's be honest your nipples are soft and sensitive having someone sucking on them like crazy, pulling them and latching on is going to make you feel tender.

If videos don't help book an appointment with an LC or community health. Do you know anyone breastfeeding? If you do ask them to have a look and see if they can assist you.

It can be tricky in the beginning but I promise it gets easier.

Sounds like your definitely not latched properly hun. Breastfeeding should never hurt. It's hard to learn from pictures etc how to do it. At least it was for me. Ask. A health professional to show you. I really needed some guidance at the start and without someone physically showing me I wouldn't have got it x

Making a “nipple sandwich” helped me get a better latch. Look at YouTube videos on “deep latch”.

@xroses just try to latch from the bottom to top and make sure you get enough in there and that should help a lot

@jmedina yea I noticed her lips curl in then I have to try and pull them outward a bit.

It took me a week to get settled!! My nipples were bleeding! But I kept putting my baby to breast and applied lanoline regularly

Sounds like your baby could be latching wrong. It is normal for you nipples to hurt some but sometimes it's a bad latch. Make sure you are getting as much nipple in as possible, kinda hold it and when baby opens quickly get a lot in there. Babies mouth should be opened wide and lips curling out not in.
