When do you moms start popping your kids hands for touching cords? Or stuff they know not to touch?

@momma2twinies I'm sure it didn't hurt they was more surprised but after while they won't do that anymore my mom had so much on her tables it took a couple of days of hand popping for them to know i can't touch that....

When my daughter started walking and getting into stuff. I did pop her hand and teach her the word NO NO! HURT THE BABY! In a concerned voice. She didn't even cry. Bc i didnt yell or hit hard just looked at her very concerned. Like with electrical sockets for example. I would look her in the eyes, gently smack her hand, and say NO NO HURT THE BABY and give her a toy to show her what's okay to play with. With hot surfaces like Ovens when she went to touch it I would pop her hand and say NO NO, HOT! HURT THE BABY and guide her away from the kitchen. I have never had any problems with her ever hitting anyone at all. As a matter of fact she learned very quickly and when she would think about touching something like for example the socket in the wall she would stop, think, and look at me and she would say. "NO NO, HURT BABY and move on to something else. I would smile and laugh with her and shower her with love, hugs, and kisses to show her how proud I was that she listened and learned. I feel like as long as you stay on them about it and are consistent they will learn quickly. It's for their safety. I mean it hurts a hell of a lot worse and is far more dangerous to be burnt or shocked. And yes you can put most things out of they're reach for safety but not everything and it's best to just teach them for their selves. Bc hazards are every where in life not just in your home. There is a right and wrong way to disipline children. Popping or whooping your child is not what people these days are making it out to be. People act like you have to yell, scream, and hurt the child to listen. Doing those things do make your child have behavior and sometimes even emotional problems. Discipline is really all about patience, eye contact, communication, and most of all CONSISTANCY! The gentle pop on the hand is just to grasp their attention to let them know HEY that will hurt you! My daughter didn't even cry when I popped her bc like I said I barely did to catch her attenton. She mostly fed off of my tone of voice and facial expressions. As she got older and learned I never had any problems she was a great listener. I have had soooooo many compliments on how well she behaved and how respectful she was. Also watch who you have around your child bc they will learn from other children very quick. I had a problem with her trying to learn from her young uncle which was not her fault she's just doing what she was taught. But I had to find a way to fix that real quick. Which was me sitting down and talking with her. She was 4 at the time so I just had to sit down with her and talk about how we don't act like that. Lol

My girls pediatrician said most nine month olds should understand no by this age. So after being told no over and over my girl gets her hand popped when it's dangerous stuff she's doing. Then moved to a safe spot with a toy she likes. It usually works. Unless she's being stubborn. Which is only when she wants to eat peoples shoes. (I dunno she's weird lol)

@momma2twinies I think so too!! I feel like your kids will be the only good influences on my son in this world lol and she stayed sane with alot of spankings 😂😂😂😂 she was the strictest mother I've ever known and only one of her kids isn't a huge fan...11/12 respect and love her and we turned out ok...i think she did SOMETHING right lol

@nerdymommyplus2 I loudly told them no 3x and moved them completely out them room multiple times and they kept going in there while I had my back turned cleaning up the living room. All I hear is my husband telling " no! Don't pull that! Stop! Do not touch that cord" and I look and they are both trying to pull it off the shelf table thing 😣

@kaytibug2009 yes I am too! I believe if they need it they need it. Nothing is wrong with spanking your child when it's necessary! I was talking their hands pretty much up until now when they pulled the ps4 and almost pulled in the floor after I loudly said no 3x and moved them away from it and they kept going back.

I started tapping her hand at 3 monyhs old when she started crawling and could get into things. You don't have to hit them hard, just enough to get the point across. That way people can't tell at you for "hitting" your child. I am a firm believer of spankings though

@babymomma2018 right! My sister and I was raised on disapline. My mom would pop us and after awhile we learned to listen to our parents. Same with my niece. My sister pops her and she is 19 months old. She listens to her momma. She won't listen to her dad because he won't pop her when she needs to be. But when her mom is around she knows what's up. I don't want my kids to be growing up cussing me out, hitting me, yelling in public like they are crazy (cause if that happens I will embarrass them), and being all around assholes. I see so many parents letting their kids go CRAZY and I'm looking at them like "you not gonna do nothing about that?? You not gonna even say nothin?"

At that age I would firmly tell them no and they can get hurt. Then I re direct them.

@momma2twinies also...idt kids shouldn't bring on extra expenses like trying to change your tv situation. Tbh. My mom had 12 kids and we never have a damn thing baby proofed and she had her house how she wanted it and if we messed with something we got popped for it...if you start off at a young age (9 months isn't too young) it doesn't take much to teach them what not to touch. All my personal opinion and what I've learned from experience but just know you are deffinitly NOT a bad momma...youre the best kind 💙

@momma2twinies good for you!! I'm honestly stoked when I find other parents who don't try to tell me it's child abuse or it teaches kids to hit! I have 30 nieces and nephews and there's so many of them that their parents get lazy and just give up disciplining and they start out as little respectful sweet kids then after awhile of figuring out the worst that will happen is a time out they turn into demonic ass holes who call names and hit bc they know they won't get in trouble.

Me and my sister are super close so she trusts me to discipline her 3 year old if need be and it's gotten to the point where my niece will be screaming and throwing a tantrum and my sister will just try to talk to her and tell her why it's not ok...at 3 years old she doesn't care so it doesn't do anything. I got so fed up I raised my voice at her and she stopped right then and there cuz she knows I'm not afraid to pop her like her own momma is. All these kids need is to know the parents mean business and they'll shape up if they're acting out. All out of love...i love my son so much I refuse to let him turn into an asshole at 2 years old lol

@momma2twinies, it tough because children need to explore there environment it’s how they feel safe and comfortable and how they learn but there are some things you just need them to not get into

@jhalsted1995 I just talked my my husband about getting a wall mount for our tv, ps4, ps3, and xbox1. Then getting some cord things that screw the cords to the wall so they can't pull them out the systems or the outlets. Hopefully we can get their stuff done next month when he gets his momey

@momma2twinies, it’s natural for children to want to explore their environment. It’s how they learn.

@jhalsted1995 I've tried keeping stuff from them. I can't really keep that stuff out of reach because of how we have to have our room set up. But I do try to keep them blocked from it and keep their attention elsewhere but sometimes they just have to touch that stuff I guess cause it's there and they find it interesting

@babymomma2018 thank you!❤ I want to teach my children to respect me and their father not to mention others. They have to learn to listen and to know better for their own safety and the safety of others. I don't want to have to keep telling them over and over again not to do something and then get no where with it. I want them to know if I have to tell them more than 3x to not do something there will be some type of punishment/ consequences. I'm raising my children to be better people in the future not like some of these children I see running around doing whatever they want whenever they want and they grow up to be disrespectful assholes that end up in jail

@momma2twinies, as a general rule of thumb I suggest redirection. They’re still so young The actions and consequences won’t really start connecting yet. In all honesty try to keep that stuff out of their reach. Children who feel safe and have secure parent attachment explore more and therefor get into more.

I think you're a great mom for reinforcing authority that way...too many kids now adays don't listen to anything because there are no consequences. If they are old enough to know what they're doing then they're old enough to be taught not to do it. 😊

@ohbabybaby88 thank you 🙂 I hope they start listening and learning right from wrong. I know most if the time if I give the "stern voice" with Kai he will stop what he's doing. If I tell at him and he knew better not to do what I told him not to do he won't even look at me and he will look all sad and look down like he knows better but he still did it

I don’t. As an educator to children with special needs and behaviors. After all the training I’ve learned it will just encourage the child to hit others when they touch something he/she doesn’t want them touching. Basically how we treat children is how they’ll learn to treat others. For example teaching a child not to hit with a smack on the hand literally teaches them nothing except to smack. In the field I work in, we see a lot of that. I’ve also seen children who when told no, flinch.

@kenoiyawe ok so I'm not a bad mom for popping them? They literally keep grabbing and pulling our ps4 cords and trying to pull the ps4 down. I told them 3x NO and they didn't stop so I popped them. Not hard but hard enough that it made a sound so they no not to do it. It made me feel bad though 😣 I feel like a horrible mom right now
