Anybody have any idea on how to teach my 8 year old how to find the main idea in a passage any advice is welcome

I usually YouTube 3rd grade (insert said subject) and then what is being taught. Like her 3rd grade geometry.

The first paragraph and title would tell you what it is about so maybe have your daughter read that n ask her questions about what she read

The first and last sentences in the first paragraph would tell you the main idea of the passage.

Ask her to find the topic and then what the paragraph is saying about the topic. The first sentence contains the main idea and the rest of the paragraph supports the main idea.

Ex: The kitten loves to play with the big ball of yarn. The yarn is stringy and rolls across the floor. This is a fun game for kittens.

Topic: yarn

Main idea: what is being said about the yarn... (kitten) loves to play with the ball of yarn.
