@nomli, Wishful thinking... Luckily we have family and friends so wiling to help, friends that I didn’t expect either.

No, hubby declined the house inspection, but he wants to bug bomb, and we will put out traps and Decon, then spray foam holes up. I only found droppings in the basement, so I’m thinking they came in through the dryer vent that isn’t hooked up to a dryer. But we’ve had to deal with mice before at a rental house. There is talk about getting a cat, but the problem with that is my my cat hates my dogs, we would have to move her and make her stay inside, and she doesn’t like kids... So my dad has her at his house and has for the last 7 years because of those reasons. If we got a new cat my husband claims to be allergic, but I say it’s just allergic to the build up of dander... I also have 2 pet rats, so how can I expect the cat to go after the mice and not harass my little boys....

So much to figure out...

@sadiesue0718, haha yeah. I'm so glad we did the inspection....without it we would've been slammed with $20k in needed repairs just to make it liveable.

We didn't have anyone who could help, so we hired movers to do all the heavy lifting. It was great! All I had to do was sit and tell them where to put things.

Traps should work. My dad had mice at his rental and our down traps. Hasn't had a (known) problem since.

Good luck with it all! If something doesn't feel good, don't do it!

@nomli, For sure! We used traps at the rental, but they just kept coming, we were never able to get rid of them and get them all. It was really annoying....

We know the roof needs done, but we want to put on a metal roof, so we are willing to do it ourselves, and both my dad and FIL are builders and handymen. They have both made made major renovations to their homes at Code levels. So I’m not to worried about that. We also had both my step dad and dad come check out the house to look for issues.

Hubby doesn’t really care what the house needs because he wants the shop that comes with it... So I have a list of crap that needs renovated on the house a mile long... BUT I’m a hands on person, so I need constant projects or I go stir crazy. Other than the mice there isn’t an immediate issue that needs fixed to make the house livable.

@sadiesue0718, that's awesome! Yeah, this house is pretty old, and they found asbestos, a hole in the underground oil tank, the chimney needed a new liner, a new boiler. Pushed closing back almost two months. There's still a few things we need to take care of, but nothing major or pressing.

My fiance would've loved a house with a shop. But, that's not very common or affordable around here. He settled for a giant garage.

S. Dad checked the heater, but the chimney wasn’t checked... The water heater looks fairy new.

It’s odd that there is such a big shop where the house is located... But there aren’t any zoning issues. So I’m good.
