Let's discuss the pros and cons of the needle test that shows whether the baby has down syndrome and all that other stuff, shall we?
My opinion is that they can see the brain well enough on an ultrasound, so unless having a baby with down syndrome changes anything for you, then I see no point in getting it.
With the risk of miscarrying I turned it down in a heartbeat. Either way I found no need to do that kind of testing. Even at my age.
I wouldn’t get the genetic testing personally but it can help a parent inform themselves better, be well prepared. There may be many disabilities that you can’t see in an ultrasound. I’m not a doctor, it’s not a professional statement I’m just assuming.
If you are talking about the needle they use to get amniotic fluid I wouldn’t do that! It’s so risky and can cause more harm than good! If there is believed to be a high risk of abnormalities, I would opt to get a blood test done if there was a huge worry so you can prepare to deliver at a different hospital etc.
I think at the 20 week if they see some alarming things then they should do testing. Otherwise I think it's very dumb
I'm a nursing student, the risk of miscarriage is very small, and I would want to know to gather resources for my baby. Make sure that his or her life is effected as little as possible by having an extra chromosome, and I would need to learn the best way to do that. Same way for the anatomy scan, knowing if baby is girl or boy doesn't change anything, but it gives me a heads up so I can prepare and think of the values I really want to instill in my child. Just my opinion. Everyone is different and free to come to their own conclusions.
