I was trying to burp my little girl and her head dropped into my chest as I was positioning her. I feel so bad! She let out a little whine but stopped as soon as I started to rub and pat her back. Any tips to how I can prevent that from happening again? All I could think about is the "Shaking Baby" video my hospital had me watch before being discharged. Seeing that x-ray vision of how the babies brain bangs against the skull along with spinal injury, makes me feel like I can unintentionally cause the same kind of damage. 😩💔
@fasciamom the lactation consultant tried showing me how to burp her that second way and I swear I almost strangled my baby.😂😐 I stopped immediately because I felt I would hurt her. I don't think I'd want to try that way again. As for that first way, it is kinda hard to picture. 😅
This might be hard to explain but my nurses showed me to pick up my baby in his shoulder area with my two pointer fingers behind the back of his head. It kept his upper body rigid when moving him to my shoulder. Another thing to try is to not burp her on your shoulder and instead in your lap and with you holding her jaw and palm on her chest/belly while patting her back. This was the only way my son would burp haha
@fasciamom oooh ahaha okay I gotcha. I'll try that the next time, thanks!
