What are everyone's thoughts on coloring hair during pregnancy? Some say it's safe others say not to do it. I haven't done mine in months because I just don't want to put the baby at risk.

But my mom is a hairdresser and has colored so many pregnant people’s hair. I think it’s safe 🙂

There are a lot of chemicals used in hair dye, but no well-designed studies have found any direct link to birth defects or childhood cancers. You don't want to be exposed constantly, dyeing your hair once or twice is unlikely to be a major problem. To be on the safe side, wait till the second or third trimester, when most of baby's major organs have finished developing, or opt for highlights over single-process color. Since highlights aren't applied directly to the scalp, the chemicals are significantly less likely to enter your bloodstream.

@jills27 then tell the hairstylist you're pregnant and ask if they have amonnia free dyes.

Most boxes have the ingredients listed on them. Google "ammonia free hair dye"

A lot of people do it. They say to make sure the room is well ventilated and you can even wear a mask.
