Moms,

Today's chat is Cooking Tips with @mommy.to.sterling Here's her Bio:

Hi! I'm Sarah, a 29 year old stay at home mom to my 7 month old son, Sterling. I'm a self taught cook with a real passion for all things food! I've worked in various food situations, from cook, to Starbucks Manager/Barista, to fine dining catering supervisor, and I experiment constantly at home with all types of cuisine! 😀

Here's some tips I've picked up along the way:

1. Don't be scared to try something new! You may be surprised at how well you can prepare some of the more complicated dishes. Just take your time and be careful. Don't try to do something else at the same time unless you're experienced with that dish!! The worst thing that can happen is it won't taste great...but you learned something!

2. Don't skimp on freshness. Fresh is best, from taste to healthfulness.

3. Season with salt and pepper at every step in the cooking process.

4. Make sure your pan is hot enough. If its smoking, its too hot. But otherwise a hot pan is your best friend.

5. Learn how to use a knife, and invest in good ones. Sharp knives are scary, but dull knives are more dangerous because you have to use more pressure.

6. Prep everything beforehand! Its called Mise en place (MEEZ ahn plahs) This is a French term for having all your ingredients measured, cut, peeled, sliced, grated, etc. before you start cooking. Pans are prepared. Mixing bowls, tools and equipment set out. It is a technique chefs use to assemble meals quickly and effortlessly.

Ask me absolutely anything! 🍴

My family LOVES garlic parmesan chicken. I can't seem to find a good recipe for the sauce. The ones that you buy already flavored are dry. We love our stuff soaked in sauce lol. Do you know of a good recipe to make Garlic Parmesan Sauce? @mommy.to.sterling,

@mommy.to.sterling, I've cooked since I was 12 and I still cook. I've been using my ground beef up a lot because I have so much of it lol. What else can I make? I've made enchilada casserole, sopes, chili, tacos, burritos, chimichangas, lol. I'm running out of things to make with it lol.

Waiting for pan to heat up is the only reason I failed at making quesidillas, then my pan was getting too hot.

I learned how to cook when I was 16 and I love trying new things. BTW those copper pans are worth it 👌🏼. Also love my cast iron skillet. I almost stopped cooking though when I was 16, I was making fried taters and spilled the whole pan of grease on my hand due to it catching fire and scaring me. I just got the confidence to cook with oil again at 23. I made chicken poppers (PS don't use a basket the flour makes it stick to it 🤣) other than that though my new cooking experiment was great :)

I don't have professional pots and pans or a knife set so I do the best I can but I love cooking and baking. I love trying something new. It just seems that all my dishes are bland even tho I season. Fresh is hard to come by here because we don't have a grocery store yet. How can I make that dinner that makes the family go crazy and want more with my circumstances?

Whenever I'm making a cheese sauce its hard for me to get it to melt without curdling or separating the cheese. I know you're supposed to use a low heat and add the milk warm so what am I still doing wrong lol. I also know some kinds of cheeses don't melt correctly so what's the best one to use for cheesey scalloped potatoes? I don't like how my cheese sauce turns out when make it.
