How do you deal with a bratty teenager? Lol my kid sister (step sister but I don't believe in the whole step thing if you know what I mean) is acting like a spoiled brat and treating her mom like crap. she knows the difference between right and wrong she basically has a 9th grade education but she acts like she is 16 so I'm trying to tell her about her actions and tell her what she is doing wrong but she just keeps being a brat and being rude. I tried to go about it in an understanding way at first but it went south fast. Ugh she looks up to me and I just don't know how to help her and show her what she's doing wrong

Have a heart to heart with her. She may not change until her hormones even out. But tell her that she is going to look back at these days and feel really bad about the way she is treating her mother. I know a lot of girls who were total bitches in high school and feel really badly about it now. I also have a friend that was SUPER mean to their mom and then her mom wound up passing away while she was in college. I don't think she regrets anything more in her life :/ actually when that happened to her it really put things into perspective for me also. I wasn't mean to my mom all the time, but I definitely had my teenager attitude moments! I've been treating my mom like the best friend she is and always was. Just try to put things into perspective for her!

Try not to be too condescending sounding while talking to her. I hated when people were talking down to me and not like an adult when I was a teen!! Haha I would pretty much shut down the conversation immediately.

@courtney017, no problem! I have a big family with so many different age groups! I have a cousin who is going through the exact same thing right now. That phase is definitely a hard one to get through when you are close to the person going through it! Phew and we thought pregnancy hormones were bad! Haha
