We've been looking at houses... because our rent is almost double what a house payment would be... however, because rent is SO high it's hard to save money for a down payment... so I've been looking at going back to work... found several jobs that are perfect... but then I priced child care... and I'd only be bringing home about $150 a week after that! 🙄😓 sooo... basically, there is no point... I could get a part time job in the evenings and weekends, and being home that much! ☹️

You should check the county you want to live in. Some have first time home buyer classes and at the end of the class you get a down payment grant. My county had them once a quarter. It's better to do when closer to the beginning of the year to ensure they don't run out of money.

My cousin got the USDA Home Loan. Shit ton of paper work, though, and waiting. But....no down payment.

@bluepenguin, thanks... I mean we are doing fine... we have all our needs met, and budget for extra stuff... but I'm not use to not being able to contribute! I really want to bring in some income, put extra money in savings... so we can get a place... it's just hard being dependent on someone else! 🤦‍♀️😅 I've worked since I was 10!

@shellbell0391, yeah we've looked into FHA... but the houses that would qualify, start around $200K, and that's not going to save us much monthly... unless we move about an hour out of town, then we could afford it... but all the houses go quickly... so we need to make sure we have cash handy! It's just frustrating... sigh... we will eventually figure it out!

@bluepenguin, yeah we are paying $1200 a month... and rent goes up about $100/mo every year we are here! 😞... cost of living has went up 15% each year... my husband's max raise is 4% every year... so we've been going 11% backwards, each year... and in the 3 years we have lived here... we have had 2 kids... 😂🤦‍♀️ so that's not helped the financial situation!

FHA! Only 3.5% down. Plus there are other loans that only require a small down payment. Ask a mortgage lender!

We are in the same boat! Trying to find an apartment with two rooms
About $1000 or under is nearly impossible over here...all great priced apartments are in the midst of the bad neighborhoods 😛
I'm working two jobs right now and my baby boy is with my SIL but I feel like I'm barely bringing anything home....:/

@bmndz95, no, we are looking to buy a house, but where I live there are SO many people moving here (like 100+ people a day) rent is stupid high... and houses stay on the market sometimes less than 24 hours
