Should I Circumcise My Baby? Opinions and Experiences Needed
What's y'alls opinions on circumcision?
Me and my boyfriend are having a discussion about it and can't come to an answer.
I feel like it's cruel and hurting my baby, but he brought up the risks to infections and how it's going to be harder during potty training (when he's learning to wipe and clean himself.)
I'm going to do some more research but I'd like to hear some other mama's opinions & experiences. If you had a boy did you have it done? What was it like for the baby and what was the healing process like?

I think it's just a cosmetic thing and not that big of a deal. But my SO wanted our son circumsized. So we did it
But if it were up to me I would NOT have gotten it done

Knowledge is power and research is key. Personally we circumcised both of our sons. I'm not going to sugarcoat it it is painful and they do cry but the next day they're fine and the few days after that it's like it never happened. It's like piercing a babies ears some are for it some are against it. It causes them pain but they get over it. The healing process actually wasn't that bad keep it clean lots of Vaseline hugs and kisses and some Motrin the first day.

This is just my experience and I know not everyone is the same, I have two boys I didn't have either of them circumcised and never had any problems with potty training and the other never had any kind of infection. They were both potty trained by 18 months and now they are 11 1/2 and 8 and no problem. I agree with @torrey_love, about it being cosmetic and I saw no reason to put my sons through that for no reason. That is just my opinion though and my experience.

Yeah. The healing was quick. But it made me so sad. I sat outside the room and cried
While dad went inside with baby😩

I had my SO decide. I didn't understand much about it until he explained that there are less infections and such if we got our son circumcised. We did with our first and will with our second. Healing process went well

Its not medically necessary. Ask a nurse or a doctor. Don't let people tell you that they won't be able to clean it properly or that girls will think its weird. Those are ignorant and inaccurate views and shouldn't influence your decision. If you are against hurting your baby and mutilating his genitals then don't circumcise your son

I had my son circumcised. The only time he screamed was when my on touched the paper she had to lay on him. She said he slept the ENTIRE TIME. He was out like a light and like i said only screamed because she touched the paper. I loved the way my ob handled it and the way she does it. He was obviously in pain for a couple days after but not enough pain that Tylenol couldn't help. We had him circumcised, my fiance is circumcised, my brothers are circumcised. I'll have any future boy babies of mine circumcised. No its not medically necessary its more of a choice, in my opinion and my fiances it does help when it comes to being cleaned properly.

Curcimsize, you're helping him in the long run. Your husband is absolutely right. Hurts only for a second, your baby will be fine.

we didn't. my husbands not circumcised..
we figured this.. if every boy is born with it. obviously don't need to be removed. they also can clean themselves properly without being circumcised, it's not like you can't.
my husband will teach our son how to and that's it.
all parents are different.

I am a nurse, foreskin does not cause infections LOL that always makes me laugh. It will not be better for him in the long run. I have even helped at a nursing home and all of my elderly men never had infections. Any man with a normal penis will never have issues as long as he takes a shower. And even that's debatable because in Vietnam they weren't always available to get clean water and even they have no problems. Circumcision does hurt. During clinicals I would see baby scream through the process. My husband has not circumcised and if I have a little boy he will not be circumcised. But hey what do I know I'm only a nurse who has gone through nursing school

@momtothe3rdpower, I believe you have a intact son could you tell her about how it is

A lot of research shows it is really painful for baby boys. It changes the way their brains work. Also- a circumcised male has a 1.25% lifetime risk of UTI while an intact boy has a 1.27% lifetime risk. That's less than half of a percent. I did not circumcise my son. It has immediate risks such as bleeding and whatnot that I didn't want to risk but it also has long term effects that no one can really be sure of or prevent. My SO can only feel 20% of the skin on his penis because of his circumcision... anyway, do some research on the actual studies they did about the infection rates and everything. A lot of those studies have been debunked.

Also, caring for an intact boy is super easy. You just wipe the outside of the penis. Like it's a finger from base to tip. You don't ever pull back the foreskin cause it is fused to the head of the penis when the boy is young. Infections happen when there's incorrect intact care. Never because of the foreskin itself.

Also, I'm friends with @cori.severs, she has a circumcised son and an intact son. Message her about both experiences, maybe. She's full of info
