Out of curiosity, does anybody else have hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid)? Had it for the last 6 years.. Got a question
@laurabump27, honestly I always thought you were around my age. That's why I was so shocked when you were all 'when I was 25' 😂 thanks chick, I hope hope hope they've settled! Sorry for the essays lol but thanks for the chat x
Ha thanx that's made my day I wish I bloody was 20/21.
Ha yea it could have played a part defo...it is a side effect struggling to conceive.
Well hopefully it's resolved itself you'd be very surprised what pregnancy can do!
You will have to let me know what your blood results say...ill keep my fingers crossed xx
@laurabump27, tbh. We were never 'trying' for a baby as such (although we both knew if it happened it was something we wanted) but we didn't particularly do anything to prevent it either and I was living with my OH for almost a year until I got pregnant so I feel like my thyroid definitely played a part in such a long wait. I say long, it's long when you've just moved in together and are with each other everyday 🙈one really?! That sounds so dangerous! I've been stupidly tired like I was when I was in school, doesn't matter how much I sleep I'm exhausted, and I've noticed I've become really fidgety again- always shaking my foot or twiddling with something. Could be nothing. I honestly thought you were about 20/21 you look nowhere near 28 🙈 x
They can be very very wrong... They told me I couldn't get pregnant due to how high the levels were... I also had this test to induce my body to release an egg which they said didn't work... yet I was already pregnant!!
They didn't check Charlies as I have a benign tumour that is what causes the hyperthyroidism hence my mri scans so the pressure causes an overload of it in my blood!
Endo told me that pregnancy can have miraculous effects on conditions like hyperthyroidism and the burst of levels can have a counter effect and resolve on their own over time.
Do you feel like your getting any symptoms or are you feeling well?
I think it sounds very positive hun!
And I'm 28.
Xx
@laurabump27, yeah I got that, it was more the way they bulged out that made me conscious. My final year of school photo is god awful I look like that footballer Ozil 😂 what dya mean at 25, how old are you?! I thought it was ace when I found out pregnancy had lowered them, they did tell me it's likely to only be temporary but you prove they can be wrong! Did you have to stay in so they could monitor Charlie's thyroid levels? They did with us but luckily his levels are fine x
I would get very dry gritty sore eyes it made me very conscious!
Yea it's not so bad now since I've had a baby as I've chunked up but when I was younger up until about 25 I was very very thin and people would always comment how I eat loads but look "skinny "
They told me that I couldn't get pregnant as my levels were so so high but that if it ever happend it could stabilize the levels... so I got pregnant... and straight after periods are on schedule which they havnt been my whole life so they checked my levels and they are staying within normal ranges. Xx
@laurabump27, the bulging is what I mean, it was so awful 😞 omg really? Mine never stopped but I didn't start until I was 16- that's what actually got the ball rolling. My school nurse thought I had anemia because of my exhaustion and not starting my period, so booked with docs for anemia bloods but he did all sorts of tests and that's how I found out. Yeah it's nice to eat what the fuck you want and not gain weight but at the same time, sick of everyone sayin 'you're too skinny', like I fucking know and I can't help it! Gosh I can't remember, i used to have blood tests every 8 weeks but when I moved away 3 years ago I never got a new endo at the hospital so never had bloods until I got pregnant. I know I was on 60mg of carbimazole if that helps x
If you don't mind me asking what were you levels when they were high? X
Ok... I might know what you mean...??
And I got so many symptoms...it stopped my periods for 2 years too!!
I got terrible anxiety and weight loss too! Xx
@laurabump27, did you used to get 'the eyes'? 🙈my eyes were terrible and it was so confidence knocking! Fingers crossed hoping mine have stayed levelled!! I still feel so many side effects though as if they've shot up 😩 guess I'll find out next week 🤞 x
@mimibear, I'm worried they have shot back up, but hoping they haven't. Tbh the last 3 years I've been terrible for it, my check up during pregnancy was the first one in two years and that's be last one I had Charlie's now 14 months.. yeah I can eat and eat and eat and nothing which makes me think they haven't stayed low 😩 oh gosh really, I must've been lucky to have stabilised during pregnancy then x
I have regular blood tests and mri scans and mine have improved significantly and remain the same 3 month's after having Charlie x
Mine were very very very high had lots of side effects but pregnancy has levelled them out completely!! :) xx
Most likely thyroid levels would return to what they were before you got pregnant. I would say your bloods will show overactive again. Do you struggle to gain weight etc? In pregnancy it's likely levels dropped because you had a teeny tiny person growing inside you so any hormones are shared. Mine kept dropping further so was having blood tests every week and had to see specialist doctor throughout pregnancy x
@laurabump27, they were high just weeks before I found out I was pregnant, then when I found out I had fresh bloods done and they'd dropped. Hoping it's a permanent thing 🤞Gives me some hope hearing yours have remained lower x
I have an underactive thyroid but it went overactive when I was pregnant now it's gone back to underactive they just prescribe you with lexothyroine or whatever it's called. Yeah they will change now your hormones are back to normal after having Charlie so you will end up back with the thyroid symptoms etc x
They drop after pregnancy so if they were normal during then it's likely they will stay that way.
Mine have also stabilized to a relatively normal level xx
@laurabump27, did your levels drop to normal when you got pregnant? And have you had a check up since having him... x
@mimibear, oh really? Well I've had it since I was 14 and my levels have always been crazy high.. but when I fell pregnant with Charlie my endocrinologist said that the pregnancy had made my levels drop to 'normal' so didn't need the meds during pregnancy.. haven't had a check up since having Charlie (finally got it booked) but can the pregnancy have permanently have made my levels normal? (Fingers crossed) or is it most likely that they would've shot back up after having Charlie? X
I have under active but am student nurse so can probably answer question x
@jo.wilcox ha well thankyou!!!
And yes I'm feeling positive for you that they have!!
Keep me updated:) xx
