I have some weight questions if someone can answer them. My baby was born 6 pounds 7 ounces. He was in the nicu for 3 weeks so didn't have a great start and got behind on his weight. Since then he has gained great, the drs are very happy with how much he's gaining cause they know he had a terrible start. But at his last appointment he weighed 10.2 pounds and they said he was in the 4%. (He's gained a pound in under a week this week and is now 11.4!!). Why is he under weight if the normal weight gain is 1-2 pounds a month? That would mean he should be 9 pounds 7oz -12 ib 7oz. And he was over 9.7. Why is he still considered underweight if he has gained within the normal?

You would think if 1-2 pounds is the normal range then a baby growing 1-2 pounds would follow perfectly on the charts lol
Yep, she's 10 months though so she's been plateau'd for a while due to crawling and all now. She's 18lbs almost 27 inches and her head is 17in.
@jasholbert is she gaining within the range of normal but still not making the charts?
My daughter was born a month early and has never fallen on the charts. They tell me all the time that she's too small but I'm not worried. That kid eats. I've always known her to be smaller than formula fed babies as well as other babies I've met that we're bf so that's interesting.
@jasholbert thank you, I'm not too worried was just curious:) I also asked about the WHO charts for bf babies and he said there was not two different charts that bf babies tend to be chubbier then formula feed baby's in the beginning and it switches around the other way as they get older. Which makes since lol but not at the same time. Oh well I guess like you said, he's gaining good that's all that matters
Because the national charts are bogus. If he's eating well and making diapers and increasing weight, I wouldn't worry.
@mrs.sims well her pedi does the weight/height ratio, cuz my baby is not "average" weight but she's taller than average, so maybe that could me it... but don't worry, your lil guy's cheeks will eventually begin to fill in 😁..
