I need to help just to ease my mind... so a month ago my fiancé and I moved out of our townhome cause we couldn't afford it. The people who moved in only had a bed and a tv and a baby on the way. We were in a tough spot as well when my fiancé lost his job that's why we left the town home. We made arranged verbally about them buying the furniture we had. So we did a roommate change. Instead of someone signing over the lease. We left on a good note with them. About a week ago they've only give us $40 for the furniture the agreement was over $700 worth of things but they would make payments. My fiancé and I agreed to just take our furniture and leave them with the washer and dryer to make payments on. On Sunday we went to go get our furniture finding everyone outside. DAMAGED. My sons crib is scratched up. All our clothes are dog pissed on. Our $600 table is scratched up. There dog chewed the cord on our grill and that's broken... after we forgot they still have our fans.. my fiancé has one fan they have that's $70. We asked to have those and they said no. They had no idea what we were talking about and they couldn't go without cold air. So we said keep two and give us the $70 one. They said no. They blocked us on everything. So we decided to get our washer and dryer back cause they said they won't make anymore payments. We had an officer standby while we went to ask for the washer and dryer and the fans. The guy refused to let us in which is fine but let the officer in. The officer came out and said they refuse to give us our things. They will fight us for it cause apparently we said they could keep it. Yes I said they could keep the washer and dryer if they would make payments and they said they wouldn't after we left to get our furniture. Basically right now we're going to an attorney for a free consultation and see what his advice is and if we would even win if we went to court. Yes I regret trusting people and trying to help them out. I regret not getting it noterizered. The officers said we could file damage on our things. Also the officers think we could have a case here. Technically the only thing that's could make us lose is we signed the roommate change so technically we abandoned our things. Basically what I'm worried about is can they sue us for asking for our things back? I never wanted it to go this way my fiancé and I were very nice to them and they took advantage of us and were hostile with us. I have enough evidence of our things in the place and conversations with them agreeing to make payments for he washer and dryer. I'm just scared they sue us for asking for our things back I can't afford a lawyer or court fees. I don't want to go to court.. I never wanted it to go this far.. I don't understand why they can't just give us or things especially after he said when we would get our furniture he said he would put "everything that doesn't belong to him outside" the washer and dryer and fans don't belong to him. Who knows what else there taking from us. I just don't want it to go this far. Any advice? Sorry for the long passage.
Basically what I'm asking is can they sue or press charges of just us asking for our things back? We were never hostile or said anything rude to them. That's just what I'm worried about.
@beebaby, yes I have texts saying there are giving me $400 for the washer and dryer and we said he'll do it in 2-3 payments and never did.
@beebaby, not the fans. We can get confirmation of the wager and dryer as we bought from someone on Facebook.
Like I said I don't want to go to civil court about this I can't afford it. It's defiantly a lesson learned to NEVER trust anyone. It's unfortunate that we're good people who were just trying to help this couple out. Never would have thought this would have happened. Lesson learned
@mommy.to.sterling, that's what I was thinking honestly cause I don't know why they would even try to sue us for? asking for our stuff back?
