So my husband is Hispanic and I am white and my mother-in-law did not like me at first because I was not Hispanic and a few years ago she told me that she is finally accepting me into the family because I am now quote Hispanic enough unquote for her son. This did not bother me because my adoptive parents are Hispanic so it was okay but now my husband's family has started pushing the Catholic religion very hard on my child even though she is only a few weeks old. They want her to wear gold and white all the time and they keep giving me all of these mother Mary necklaces to put on her and they're pushing for me to get her ears pierced now that she's so little and constantly saying that she's got to wear the gold necklace and she needs to have the patron saints all around her for protection and stuff like that and I'm just not too sure about all this. Is there any advice on how to speak with your mother-in-law about backing off and letting my husband and I raised her the way we want her raised?

@miniwolfe that's the sing I and my husband both have done religious studies and we don't really have a specific religion that we want to raise her in but she is going to know Catholicism and she is going to know the practices in the ways and all it's just I don't understand why they're pushing so hard for her to have all of this stuff around her right now because she's just a baby she doesn't understand anything. My husband has try talking to his mother and his sisters about this too and it's as if they just seem to ignore him.

First off I'm catholic and we do NOT wear white all the time. Gold bracelets and Mary chains are just traditional but not needed. Shes way into it. I would tell your husband what shes doing and see how he feels about it. If he also disagrees tell him to talk to her and tell her you guys just aren't ready for all that. And shes only 3 weeks you do not get her ears done now!! Not until at least 3 months. Your child you can say no or yes.

Just read your comment above mine, if their ignoring your guys wishes I would move out maybe? Or keep them away from her. Tell them if they can't accept what you guys are asking for she just wont be around them anymore

@drewandvaehsmommy I just feel bad because it makes my husband mad and I'm just unsure of how to handle it because they're my in-laws and I want them to be in her life plus we are about to move across state for my husband's military stuff anyways so we're not going to be close to them but I don't want them getting mad or anything if they don't I don't know see us doing what they want I guess... this is all just been a very weird and kind of confusing situation

@kaytibug2009 hun your husband is supposed to take your side. Your his wife . He shouldn't be getting mad towards you at all . If he already talked to his fam about the situation and they still are pushing then you have to cut them off or just deal with them because it sounds to me that they are always going to keep pushing the subject .
