Q1: Welcome @amandajelks! You have such an amazing story of truly overcoming the near impossible. You were pregnant at 14 but didn’t let it stop you graduating valedictorian of your class, going on to college and now a successful lawyer and motivational speaker. Could you tell us a little of your story of how you did it? #momlifechats

My parents had a very emotionally and physically abusive relationship. By the time my  mother  finally  walked away from my abusive father, I was nine years old and he had produced

three children outside of their marriage. About a year after their separation, my mother had a

mental breakdown and could no longer care for me. I bounced around from house to house every few months (or even weeks) for the next five years. When I became pregnant, I wanted

my child to know that I loved him more than anything and would make the ultimate sacrifices to

simply give him a chance at life. A chance I never felt like I had. On top of the love I had for my

son, I used all the negative things people said about me as motivation to keep moving forward.

Every time they said “you can’t”, I showed them otherwise.
