Hey ladies, I'm new here and need second opinion on something πŸ€”

I have been having depression and anxiety for many years (don't know exactly when it started) and would like to know if some of you suffer it too and how did it get after getting pregnant.

My boyfriend says it will get much better after becoming a mom but I'm not so sure and I don't want to be unable to take care of my kids... 😒

@scurlock.mommy from what you said I think the most important thing is to be patient and keep trying... I'm not very used to taking medicine but I hope I can do it later on if things get worse πŸ˜„ I have been having many crisis lately but I think it's because of not being able to have a baby right now, but I'm still worried of what will happen after I do... πŸ˜–

@nia_f there are certain ones you can take while breastfeeding. Honestly, it took a long time to find the right medications and the correct dosage so that it actually helped, but it definitely does! The most important thing is being open with your doctor if something doesn't seem to be helping, or if it's making you feel worse. I take a mood stabilizer and something for anxiety. Before that I went through three or four different ones before I actually felt better.

@nia_f I told mine and they monitored me throughout my pregnancy, and once she was born, they called about once a week to make sure my mental health was okay. Once I went to my 6wk appointment they put me back on my antidepressants because I wasn't doing so well. I also have a case manager and a therapist, but I don't really ever see either of them.

@scurlock.mommy I didn't even consider that option before because I'm not being tracked by any doctor (refused to), but I think you are right, maybe I can help it getting worse if I receive some advise beforehand.

@mommysweigart I think I know how you feel, I use to underestimate myself a lot, but I will follow @scurlock.mommy 's advise and not give up with it! Thank you both girls for sharing your experience and counsel!! ❀

Honest answer here not trying to scare you or talk you out of having a baby but i have depression and anxiety with my son i was fine during my pregnancy and even stopped my meds almost instantly (couple days after he was born) my depression came back worse now almost 2 years later im still not where i was before him and being pregnant again its definitely not like my first pregnancy but on that note i love my son and new baby come soon but it is harder for me to feel like im being a good mom even if im told im being one

During pregnancy, my depression wasn't bad at all, honestly. However, after she was born, it was horrible. I would let your OB know that you struggle with depression so that they can keep an eye on you throughout your pregnancy as well as afterwards.
