I still use bumpers... the mesh ones... I can not tell you how many times my kids have gotten hurt getting their legs stuck in the bars while sleeping.

We have the mesh ones but honestly they don't prevent her from giving her head a good bump against the side. They really only protect her from getting her arm stuck between the bars
