Ladies, this is a little TMI but I just need some reassurance.. my SO and I had sex unprotected for the first time since our daughter was born. (She's 2 months and a week old). I'm breastfeeding and also have the Skyla IUD in place. Should I be worried at all? It was kind of a spur of the moment thing since the baby is asleep. Thanks in advance.
Yeah IUD's are like 99.9% effective and there's no time frame on that. They're effective as soon as they're put in! You're good😊
I believe iuds are like 99% effective. You won't get pregnant. It's extremely rare
She just told me to use a back up birth control method for the first two weeks, even though it starts working immediately. It's been a little over three weeks since I've had it placed. Like I said, I don't think I'll get pregnant but I just need a little reassurance. @jsco
Did your doctor give you a time frame on when it's supposed to protect you? I think unless they told you not to have sex for so many days after it was placed you should be ok
@jsco, I heard it kept the odds shorter but wasn't 100% sure. I hope everything turns out well because I just cannot see myself with another baby right away. We had been using condoms since my IUD was placed but tonight was the first night we didn't.
I dont think you should be worried. You can have sex even while breast feeding. And with the skyla implant your already protected. Though the protection may fail at any point. Even if it does as long as your daughters at least 3 months old by the next pregnancy your body will be healed enough that it wont cause any major issues health wise
