*TRIGGER*

Mother loses child because she wanted to breastfeed so badly... The baby was dehydrated and went into cardiac arrest. This hurts my heart. Fed is best.

Supply and demand is what helps your milk increase and staying hydrated, flax seed and whole oats oatmeal

@jjsmommyjj711, I need to have her weighed again. Last week she weighed 7/5 and her birth weight 4 weeks ago was 7/14.

@morganmommy79 I've been breastfeeding for almost 20 months and jj has always been skinny and he lost almost half a pound before leaving the hospital and for the first 3 or so days at home he had both breast and formula (even though he spit most of the formula out) and we kept it up,we still co sleep 😩😩😩 and he's a healthy almost 2 year old crazy boy that is following his growth curve 😊. As long as you daughter is following her curve and is making enough diapers your fine but I 1000% support fed is best all the time

@mrssanderson Supply is definitely built on demand. I've had no difficulty at all while breastfeeding (luckily.) I was dead set on breastfeeding and then I found this app and learned a lot along with my own personal research. I was so confident and my son latched as soon as he came out. I can't speak on the difficulty of breastfeeding, not from personal experience. I've definitely seen a lot of defensive moms, and I don't agree with letting the opinions of others affect my peace of mind. But I'm not other mom's and they aren't me. That's why I make it a goal to be kind to every person I come in contact with, because everyone is different and I'm not a religious person by any means but I do believe we are all brothers and sisters. We should help thy neighbor whenever we can.

@sarisings, I'm not arguing that fed isn't best cos I definitely agree with you on that! Breastfeeding isn't for everyone & that's completely fine. Whether we breastfeed or not doesn't make us more or less of a parent. But as a breastfeeding mother to a 10 month old with severe food allergies, I can assure you that a baby cannot be allergic to breastmilk without having a very serious, life-threatening condition... cows milk, food protein intolerances etc. YES. All which I could definitely see making a new mom believe that is a possibility. But breastmilk is literally the one food designed to nourish the human body. Supply is built on demand, which I'm sure as a BF mom yourself, you already know. It's really tough in the beginning with baby wanting to constantly latch to establish supply, on top of sleep deprivation - I remember the first month of my son's life I spent multiple nights sitting on the edge of my bed crying while nursing him. I couldn't understand why it wasn't that natural bonding experience everyone had told me it would be lol & I'd be a liar if I said that I never doubted I was producing enough. I should have said it's rare for a mother not to produce enough * provided baby has a proper latch... Because latch issues are a game changer completely. I think the biggest issue though is a lot of us are sent home with a new baby & little - no knowledge on breastfeeding & what to watch for. Because we can't see how much baby is getting when put to breast, we often assume it's not enough. It seems a lot of women are so quick to go to the pump too or thinking that it's easier to pump & bottle feed when in reality it's a lot more work & a lot harder to maintain a supply. Unfortunately breastfeeding seems to be a really sensitive topic on here because women automatically get so unnecessarily defensive of their choices. It's a shame that mother's feel pressured to do anything other than care for their child, how we choose to do so shouldn't be of concern to others.

@jenngarcia1755 I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. It's so easy to speak before knowing. None of us know what battle others are fighting. It's like some people expect mom's to let their children starve. Those people just have verbal diarrhea, wish they would keep their mouths shut.

Fed is best. That's what is most important. Yes breast milk is more nutritious for baby but no baby was ever malnourished on formula either. 😒

I have both experiences. I wasn't successful in breastfeeding w my first and back then no one pressured you to. She was formula fed and she turned out just fine. She's smart, beautiful and healthy (no allergies, illnesses, etc.)

Now my second i am breastfeeding but I have no problem giving her formula if needed b'coz my first priority is to keep her fed.

I can't stand women who pressure other women about the "importance" of breastfeeding. You concern yourself w your own kids and I'll worry about mine. You do you and I'll do me. That's how it should be. No matter what decisions we make for ourselves and our child we should lift one another up not push each other down.

@morganmommy79 Babies always lose weight before they leave the hospital, as long as they are back to their birth weight by 2 weeks old. Keep going momma! I pump as well and give my little a bottle before bed just so I know he's getting enough... Helps him sleep through the night which we both need lol.

@sarisings, I originally planned to breastfeed at least 9 months to a year. Unfortunately my body had other ideas.

When I switched to formula then I actually had people make some really rude comments about it or insinuate that I was being selfish by taking the "easy way out"

What these people didn't realize is how many times I broke down into tears cause my baby was still hungry after I breastfed her. Or how many different things I tried to attempt to produce more for her. Or how many lactation people I talked to so I could get more advice. The hours I spent reading info online. They didn't care about any of that. They only cared about their opinion and what they felt was best for my child without knowing anything about my situation.

EXACTLY!! I would get very discouraged at first when I would see how much some moms can pump, but now all I care about is that my son is healthy and fed. Whatever milk I produce I give him. We as women need to uplift each other. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

@sarisings, my daughter lost 9% of her body weight before leaving the hospital. She's still barely gaining but the dr insists she's doing fine. I hear her gulping my milk tho and swallowing. And I do pump bottles sometimes.

@ingridm89 Exactly. I can honestly say I was one of those people who would get annoyed by people who wouldn't try to breastfeed. But once I became more informed and realized it was none of my damn business, I stopped being so judgy. I just want us mom's to support one another. It's bad enough we have a society that is against us as women for the most part.

I feel like people judge too much when you don't breastfeed. Of course breast is best, but in not going to let my child starve. I do both. We as MOTHERS need to EMPOWER one another.

@jenngarcia1755 I agree fully. Even before I got pregnant I knew breastfeeding was the route I wanted to go, but I was also prepared for the possibility that things may not go my way. I have family that are uninformed and are surprised that I'm still nursing my son (he's 5 months almost) and that I plan on nursing him until he is a year at least. I just try to educate those people who are ignorant and closeminded. I had no difficulty breastfeeding so I can't and won't even attempt to understand what it must feel like when your body won't produce enough or there are other complications. I just wish for all our babies to be happy and most importantly well fed 😊

It's definitely not uncommon for women to not be able to produce enough for their baby. It happens fairly often.

I think there is WAY too much pressure surrounding all of this. When we are pregnant you have all of these people telling you that breastfeeding is so much better and that guilt tripping people into breastfeeding. I've had people treat me like I was heartless and didn't care about my baby when I told them she had formula. (She had formula because I was not able to produce enough for her) I think that the pressure needs to stop and we need to be supportive in whatever someone chooses.

Breast is not always best. The BEST for your child is whatever keeps their belly full, happy, mom calm and not stressed out, these are things that are best for your baby.

@carrsonsmommy I'm so sorry girl. Don't beat yourself up about it. There's no harm in being more informed but I know some being who are so judgemental when it comes to that. There are mom's who can't breastfeed and it's not always their fault. I would get annoyed at mom's who wouldn't even try it or would say they think it's weird or they don't want their boobs to sag. But at the end of the day it's none of mine or anyone else's business.

@mrssanderson A woman spoke about her experience, I doubt she went public on the news. That's not true, plenty of mom's can't produce what their babies need and some babies are even allergic to milk.

I was so depressed and disappointed in myself that I wasn't able to breastfeed! My son just wouldn't latch. I still to this day beat myself up thinking I should of tried harder. But I give my son formula in a bottle! When people say fed is okay and breast is best (I know you did, some people have said it to me) it hurt in so many ways! I could not imagine not giving my baby a bottle just because I was so Head strong on breast feeding! My next baby I'm going to do so much more research and try harder when he/she gets here!

I'd like to see an actual news article 🤔 it's extremely RARE for a woman's body not to be able to meet their baby's needs. Lack of wet diapers would be a huge sign that something was wrong...
