So today when I was in the shower I started to see milk come out of my breasts a little and I'm a little over 18 weeks is that normal and does that mean something ? It's my first pregnancy so I'm not too sure. Help!
@kellyelaine, I read that as soon as I got the advice that it wasn't good to start pumping before 35 weeks. It's all so new and exciting! I'm praying that I can breastfeed and I want a natural birth.
Hey mama! I'm a breastfeeding peer councilor, that's awesome that your milk is making an appearance so early! Although when your milk shows up has little to do with supply it's a great feeling to know you will be able to nourish baby! Yay!
As far as starting to store milk.. it's not recommended to do that! Nipple stimulation is a common way to induce labor. I would talk to your doctor and/or an IBCLC (internationally breastfeeding certified lactation consultant) to make sure it's safe for you to start.
Your body will make colostrum until after your baby is born. Mine started leaking around then and the dried up in the third trimester until almost birth. It couldn't hurt to pump and store your colostrum now since it's so beneficial to your newborn
Is it normal to store it ahead of time ? And when I give birth will there still be colostrum for the baby then ???! How does it all work?! Lol @morganmommy79
@bchewning18, mine never showed until after baby. This is great tho because you can pump and store colostrum ahead of time.
Oh okay haha. Does that mean I will able to produce a lot since it happened early or is every situation different ?
@bchewning18, ohhh, you go girl! Your body is meant to give birth! You can do it!!! Just keep a positive attitude and remember woman were BORN to birth and nurse!
