you can ask for a membrane sweep but I really don't recommend it. Google what all goes into it and what the actual procedure is doing. I was induced at 39 weeks for a medical reason, which is usually the only reason they'll induce you before you're past due. the lady probably said that just bc first babies usually take longer for the labor process to begin, but that isn't always the case!

Normally doctors don't want you going longer than 41 weeks because it can cause problems...

it's because you have a midwife. they do not like to do things earlier than they have too. I was induced by my midwife at 42 Weeks with my first. this midwife will not do membrane sweeps until 40 weeks and only if you ask for them. she will also not give out her secrets of natural induction until 40 weeks. she doesn't medically induce until 42 weeks because there is really no harm in being pregnant that long. when I first saw an ob they would do membrane sweeps at 36/37 weeks and won't induce until 39-40 weeks. that's the difference between OB and midwife. midwife gives youe body more time to do things naturally on its own.

well she gave me the go ahead to start taking evening primrose oil and the natural teas that are supposed to help soften your cervix, but then told me I'd be pregnant until 42 weeks lol. if I ask can they legally say no? I've obviously never done this before so I'm not really sure what to expect or what I can ask for @kmharr3

probably becaus you go to a midwife honestly... i was induced 2 days after my DD with my first, 10 days early with my second i asked on both but my dr was okay with it... a lot of drs arent

it's up to their discretion. so yes they can tell you no, that they won't induce you any sooner. my first midwife told me no. it's probably because it's your first baby and if she checked your cervix it's probably closed like a clam and doesn't show any signs of progression. I would take what she said with a grain of salt. your cervix could change overnight. I'd ask her about getting your membranes swept if your interested but she has the right to say no. it's her license on the line if something goes wrong so she isn't going to do something she isn't comfortable with.

I usually see a different midwife so I was just confused when she threw all this new info at me, because I was told before they don't think I'm going the full 40. maybe I'll ask to see if I can just get appointments with my normal midwife so I know who I'm more conformable with. @kmharr3

yeah, I would see who you are comfortable with. there is always going to be that one that you disagree with. just pray she isn't the one on call when you go into labor

i was 42 almost 43 weeks with my first my doctor wouldn't do anything at 40 weeks then went on vacation for 2 weeks and i had so many issues and i was in and out of labor and hospital my body wouldn't stay in labor long enough and finally at almost 43 weeks i was in labor for 9 hours at home before i left for the hospital and i finally got a good doctor because noone knew where mine was. so i even had to be induced after i got there cuz i started losing contractions and then a total of 24 hours i finally had my baby girl 8lbs 11oz. to find out my doctor got fired for having sexual relations with his patient's. any way everyone is different every pregnancy is different my second baby was only 12 hours and i pushed 3 times still ended up being induced due to the epidural but it went faster and smoother! i had him at 38weeks!
