I'm looking for some advice when your baby is first born -- Do you have parents stay with you? Should they do your laundry and cook? Or should they just come over to visit? This is my first child so I'm unsure and I've been having a few of our parents ask how involved they can be. I'm trying to avoid getting overwhelmed -- I'd rather be overwhelmed with a new baby than deal with a baby and them....

My mom is flying for a month , of course she won't be there all the time. I'll ask her to go to my bros house cuz I need my sacred time with hubby and baby .

I was overwhelmed with others in my house. i didn't want anyone over. Maybe because my family aren't very supportive.

I was overwhelmed and wanted all the help I could get! It wasn't available, though! I'd let them stay and if you're fine then they can leave anytime but if they're actually helpful, let them stay as long as you can!

With my first son I bottle fed so my family would let me sleep sometimes and feed him. With my second son I'm breastfeeding so my nana couldn't help me as much. I was still responsible for doing my cooking & cleaning.

I stayed with my parents for the first week/week and a half. I was a single mom at the time though. Then at 6 weeks old my son needed a surgery so my nana let me stay with her for a week. With my second son when he left the nicu (after his 7 week stay) my nana let me stay with her for a week before my husband and I were able to move into a new apartment.

I had them visit. When he was first born my parents went on a camping trip the next day so it was just me and my husband. Honestly I think the early days were the easiest. Sleep eat poop lol. And they sleep a lot. So I didn't want more help than my husband. But I do have friends who have more kids or do get overwhelmed easy so their parents stay for a week or two and helped them clean the house, finish anything hat wasn't ready for the baby and let them sleep in between feedings of breast feed of let them sleep longer if bottle fed so then over nights they wee well rested. It's really up to you. I know I would go bat shit crazy with my family there and I would be going to a crazy hospital if I had his family stay lol. So it's not bad if u want to try yourself and if you get overwhelmed have hem come over. Even if it's a visit to catch up on sleep or whatever. Do it.

You should do what feels right for you. don't accommodate them jus to spare their feelings. when I left the hospital on a Friday, my mom came and spent the weekend only and then have gave me my time alone with my son and it was perfect.
