But they definitely have to give you extra time for walking to the room, setting up and washing your pump parts afterwards. The 15-20 min is supposed to be for just the actual pumping.

@ciraclesmiracle, but it's supposed to be around your breaks right? They're making me use my paid breaks and lunch break to pump. I think I will ask my doctor to write a note

@jacesterlingsmommy, it is! Like including the time it takes to get everything ready and walk to the room and store the milk when you're done you've already used about half the time. That's not even including the let down. Did your job accommodate you?

I was a fast pumper but I don't even think I could get it all done and wrapped up in 15 minutes. Seems like an unreasonable amount of time to me.

It's not "as much as you need", but CA law requires that they give you breaks within reason. Generally it's about 15-20min every 2-3 hours. Because breastfeeding is medical, it may help to talk to your doctor and get written orders to present to your employer to define your medical needs regarding breastfeeding. Further, your employer may not pay you for all of your breastfeeding breaks if they go beyond your regular allotted breaks.
