No, you've got to use Tide. And it has to be the original powder kind. Not free and clear, not liquid. Anything else seems to cause ammonia buildup which can cause terrible rashes/burns and a horrible ammonia odor (you will know if you have buildup because of the smell). Also, I forgot to mention that you need to "prep" your diapers before you use them. That means washing them in hot water and detergent about 5 times.

@ciraclesmiracle i use dreft for all my sons clothing and blankets, but use tide for ours. should i use dreft for the diapers?

I use pocket diapers and I like them! I use liners so I just throw away the poop mess. I don't mind diaper laundry at all. I wash diapers every 2-3 days with regular/original Tide powder detergent. That's really important. It works better than any other detergent. We have hard water--I don't know if that's a problem where you live, but I use about 1/4c of Borax in each load so my diapers don't get buildup. I can't think of anything else. I don't find cloth diapering to be that big of a commitment. It's easier than I thought, and I love that I never run out of diapers!

I use bum genius and rumparooz. I've never heard of babygoal, hopefully they work out for you!

@kmharr3 they were bamboo inserts, the came with the package i ordered, i bought babygoal brand cloth diapers to try out. but ive heard good things about alva and bumgenius

what kind of inserts? I suggest using the hemp inserts, way more absorbant. or double up on inserts if your child is a heavy wetter. pockets are my favorite :) did you get a wet bag and a pail liner? those are essential!

I cloth diaper and love it. It was difficult at first especially if you use disposables right now but try to stick with it, worth it in the long run!
