This chick I know said castor oil is safe to induce labor and not dangerous at all! Nobody on here…

Castor oil is absolutely NOT safe to induce labor. It can cause baby to have a bowl movement in the womb then aspirate and die. It's one of the most dangerous things you can consume while pregnant.

@jlf240 I know! I tried to tell her but she tried to tell me its safe and she already drank it...she's frustrated cause she's overdue and its only her first child and she was talking to me like I don't have experience with 2 kids! I've never taken castor oil and don't ever plan on it but I do know about it.

I hope her baby is safe. I had my baby late so I understand the frustration, but parenting is all about patience. I'll pray for her and her baby

@jlf240 me too she's supposed to get induced on the 27th if he doesn't come by then. When was your baby born?

My daughter was born 2 days late on October 15th. My doc and everyone else expected her to come early, so even two days felt like an eternity

@jlf240 lol I understand. I got induced 2weeks early with my first and my second came 2 weeks early naturally

@blessed-n-proud7 oh wow that's scary! I had a scary labor with my second cause my nurse didn't monitor me correctly, me and my son almost died.

I took castor oil to induce labor. I was under a midwife's care, and 41 weeks and 5 days. I did have some reservations, but my midwife told me that it would be fine since I was already having contractions, they just weren't regular. That being said, it's not "totally safe". It can cause uterine rupture in a woman who's not ready for labor, it can cause dehydration and exhaustion and there are indications that it may cause a baby to pass meconium.

@ciraclesmiracle I agree. I'm not sure all women know those facts though and not sure if they talk to their doctors about it before doing it either.

Absolutely. At the very least if a woman takes it it should be under a doctor/midwife's care.

Yes. But this is true with other induction methods as well.
