At what age did you guys start your babies on the rice cereal?
I have only ever breast-fed my son and he is a little bit over four months.
I have heard between four and six months but how do you decide as a mom when your babies ready?
I have a really hard time thinking about adding cereal to his diet because I feel like I won't be needed as much because he isn't nursing as much!
Usually when they double birth weight you put them on foods at least that's the guidelines my doctor goes by. I gave my son some veggies for his first foods. Rice cereal isn't that nutritious and can cause constipation.
That is what I worry about I feel that because he has been having tummy problems ever since he was born he needs a little bit more time.
But I guess at his four month check up he had dropped weight from his two month check up his doctor never said anything about starting him on cereal and then even though she told me he lost weight she was not concerned she said that she wasn't concerned anyway we never spoke about cereal or starting anything else but when I asked his nurse when do you usually start baby on solids and she said oh you could start him now but that was just his nurse
Rice cereal has no nutritional values whatsoever. Doctors told me, formal fed start solids at 4 months, breastfed at 6 months (or whenever the child is ready). I started my first on puréed food at 4 months and i regret not waiting longer. Food before 1 is really just for fun. My second was interested really early, but I waited for him to be 6 months. I needed to, because he dropped weight between 6 and 9 and I didn't want to give him formula or rice cereal.
